Mobile Forensic Van to Accelerate Criminal Investigations: Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil.

Sangli, Aug 2025 : To strengthen the police force with modern, technology-driven tools for effective crime detection and increased conviction rates, Sangli Police has been provided with a state-of-the-art Mobile Forensic Van along with trained personnel. Guardian Minister of Sangli district and Minister of Higher & Technical Education and Parliamentary Affairs, Chandrakant Patil, expressed confidence that this facility will significantly enhance the scientific and efficient handling of investigations.

The minister inaugurated the Mobile Forensic Van and two Eicher buses at the Sangli Superintendent of Police office premises. The event was attended by MLA Sudhir Gadgil, Kolhapur Range Special Inspector General Sunil Phulari, Superintendent of Police Sandeep Ghughe, Additional SP Kalpana Baravkar, Sub-Divisional Police Officers Vimala M. (Sangli) and Pranil Gilda (Miraj), DySP Prabhakar More, DySP (Home) Arun Sugavkar, and other officials.

Patil said the two new buses will improve the mobility of the district police. The Mobile Forensic Van, equipped with advanced kits and video recording facilities, allows for on-site evidence collection, including narcotics testing, DNA sampling, cybercrime analysis, and CCTV-based documentation. He emphasized that such facilities will ensure quicker filing of charge sheets, faster trials, and higher conviction rates.

The minister also reviewed the van’s various testing kits with senior police officials and trained staff. The government has approved 259 Mobile Forensic Vans across Maharashtra under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023, and Sangli received its updated van on August 26, 2025. Supplied by CMS Computers India Pvt. Ltd., the van comes with expert analysts, a chemical examiner, and 16 advanced forensic kits including blood detection, NDPS testing, GSR, cybercrime investigation, and DNA kits.
