Surprise Inspection: Substandard Bread and Toast Destroyed at New Indian and Mumtaz Bakeries
In view of the rainy season, a joint team of Food and Drug Administration and Municipal Corporation conducted a surprise inspection of bakeries operating in Ambikapur on Wednesday to check the quality of food items. During this, in the surprise inspection of New Indian Bakery and Mumtaz Bakery, bread and toast stored in poor quality and in bad condition were found in both the firms. The team destroyed the bread and toast stored in about 10 kg quantity on the spot. Through the Municipal Corporation, a fine of Rs 5,000 each was imposed on both the bakeries for not maintaining the food items properly and lack of adequate cleanliness. In view of the possibility of manufacturing substandard bakery products, legal sample of bread and toast was taken from both the firms. Improvement notice was issued to both the institutions for compliance of medical examination certificate of the employees working in the institution, water test report, pest control certificate and other standards related to cleanliness and food safety. Giving the above information, Senior Food Safety Officer Mr. RR Devangan said that earlier on July 22 and July 23, various fruit and vegetable vendors in the city were inspected and samples of fruits and vegetables were also taken and sent for testing. Food Safety Officer Mr. Prashant Kumar Tiwari and Sanitation Inspector Swarn Mehta were present during the proceedings.
