Singapore PM Lawrence Wong Begins 3-Day India Visit to Boost Strategic Ties

Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong arrives in India today for a three-day visit aimed at strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The visit marks 60 years of diplomatic ties and is expected to deliver new agreements across finance, digital innovation, skills, aviation, maritime, and space technology.

New Delhi, July 2025 : Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong arrives in India today for a three-day official visit, underlining the deepening strategic partnership between the two nations. The visit coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Singapore, adding symbolic weight to the occasion.

During his stay, PM Wong will hold a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where discussions will focus on regional and global developments as well as fresh avenues of cooperation. Several high-level agreements are expected to be signed in areas such as finance, digital innovation, skill development, civil aviation, maritime cooperation, and space technology.

Officials said the visit seeks to provide fresh momentum to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, established during PM Modi’s visit to Singapore in September 2024. It follows the third India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR) held earlier this month in New Delhi, where ministers from both countries reviewed progress under six key pillars: advanced manufacturing, connectivity, digitalisation, healthcare, skill development, and sustainability.

Singapore and India share a robust bilateral relationship, grounded in strong economic, defence, and cultural ties. In recent years, collaboration has expanded into emerging areas such as fintech, green energy, smart urban development, and cybersecurity. Trade and investment flows have grown steadily, while educational exchanges and tourism continue to strengthen people-to-people links.

Singapore is India’s largest trading partner in ASEAN, the leading source of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), and among the biggest contributors of external commercial borrowings and foreign portfolio investments. Both nations see the current visit as an opportunity to future-proof their partnership amid an evolving geopolitical landscape.
