CM Omar Abdullah Reviews Flood Situation, Orders Swift Relief and Evacuations

Srinagar, Sept 2025 : Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday chaired a high-level meeting to assess the situation triggered by incessant rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir, which has swelled rivers and caused flood-like conditions in several districts.

The Chief Minister directed the administration to intensify its ground response, ensure immediate clearance of waterlogged areas, protect essential services, carry out timely evacuations from critical zones, and provide prompt relief to affected families.

“Hon’ble Ministers Javed Rana and Satish Sharma briefed the Chief Minister on the ground situation in Jammu, while Minister Sakina Itoo and Advisor to the CM Nasir Sogami shared updates from Kashmir,” the CM’s office posted on X.

Appealing to the public, Abdullah urged citizens to strictly follow official advisories, avoid vulnerable spots, and prioritize safety.

According to officials, continuous heavy downpours have swollen the Tawi, Jhelum, and Chenab rivers, raising concerns of widespread flooding. In Rajouri, heavy rains have created flood-like conditions, forcing authorities to remain on high alert. In Doda’s Bhalesa and Bhaderwah regions, torrential rains for the second consecutive day triggered severe inundation.

The Tawi River in Jammu is flowing at dangerous levels, while the Jhelum in Srinagar has risen significantly, and the Chenab River has also swollen due to continuous rainfall in its upper catchments.

Several houses in low-lying areas have been inundated as water from the Chenab entered residential zones, prompting urgent relief and evacuation measures.

The Chief Minister assured that all agencies were fully mobilized to safeguard lives and property, while stressing the need for coordinated action and public cooperation to tackle the unfolding crisis.
