Haridwar Kumbh Mela Will Be Grand and Divine: Chief Minister
Sept 2025 : Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed that all permanent works related to the Kumbh Mela should be completed by October 2026, well before the grand celebration of Haridwar Kumbh Mela in 2027. He emphasized that preparations must be prioritized, classified, and executed in coordination among all departments.
Chairing a high-level review meeting at the Secretariat on Wednesday regarding preparations for the Haridwar Kumbh 2027, the Chief Minister said that hosting a grand and divine Kumbh is the top priority of the state government. He instructed that all projects be carried out in line with the expanded area and master plan. The master plan should clearly mark all sectors, roads, parking areas, ghats, and camping sites, ensuring necessary land acquisition and temporary land use where required.
The Chief Minister further directed that new ghats be built, Kangra Ghat expanded, and repairs to existing ghats completed on time to manage crowd pressure. To ensure the safe conduct of the fair, encroachments on government land and roads must be strictly removed. He stressed that works being undertaken by the UIIIDB in the Haridwar Ganga Corridor should be completed on priority, keeping the Kumbh in view. He also asked for the early completion of the under-construction Bahadrabad–Shyampur bypass to maximize its benefit during the event.
Special tents are to be planned in Shyampur, Gendikhata, and Chandighat areas. Traffic and parking arrangements within the Kumbh area must be strengthened. Traffic diversion plans and parking facilities should be in place, and shuttle services considered where parking areas are far. Internal roads in the Kumbh region must also be repaired on time, benefitting local residents as well. Strengthening of the pedestrian paths to Mansa Devi and Chandi Devi temples must be completed within schedule.
Chief Minister Dhami directed the adoption of a zero-waste concept for solid waste management, with adequate arrangements for dustbins, recycling systems, and mobile toilets. Pink toilets and changing rooms should be provided for women devotees. Continuous 24-hour cleaning arrangements must be ensured at ghats and riverbanks. Proper seating and arrangements for Aarti should be provided at Har Ki Pauri.
He instructed officials to complete all safety-related measures in time, including crowd management, traffic control, and basic amenities at parking lots. Each ghat must have lifeguards, safety ropes, and motorboats. He emphasized that devotees should carry back positive experiences of Uttarakhand, for which personnel must be trained in advance to interact courteously with visitors.
Health facilities in the Mela area should be strengthened, with temporary hospitals, ambulances, and mobile medical teams in place. Maximum use of IT and digital services should be made in Mela management, including mobile apps, helplines, and information centers to provide real-time updates to devotees. The Chief Minister directed the Chief Secretary to review preparations every 15 days.
The meeting was attended by MLAs Madan Kaushik, Premchand Agarwal, Adesh Chauhan, Renu Bisht, Ravi Bahadur, and Anupama Rawat; Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan; DGP Deepak Seth; Principal Secretaries R.K.
