Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Unveils Vision for Education Reforms, Appeals to Teachers to Rebuild the State

Hyderabad, Sept 2025 : Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday emphasized the transformative role of education in rebuilding the state and announced that a new education policy will introduce sweeping reforms across the sector. Speaking at the Teachers’ Day celebrations, the Chief Minister urged the teachers’ community to join hands with the government in the reconstruction of the state through a revitalized education system.

CM Revanth Reddy revealed that he has personally taken charge of the education portfolio to ensure a focused revival of the sector, which he claimed had been neglected during the 10-year rule of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). “Many Chief Ministers keep departments like Revenue, Finance, or Irrigation under their direct supervision. I have chosen to closely monitor the education sector because it is critical for the state’s progress,” he said in response to criticisms from opposition leaders.

The Chief Minister pointed out that the previous government had promised free education from KG to PG for underprivileged students but failed to implement it. Teacher recruitment had also been halted since 2017. “In contrast, our government recruited 11,000 teachers in just 55 days after coming to power. The previous administration treated education as a business, neglected teacher salaries, and left prominent institutions like Osmania University and Kakatiya University non-functional by not appointing sufficient teaching staff,” he said.

Highlighting the historical contribution of teachers, CM Reddy recalled their pivotal role during the Telangana movement, where they spread the slogan of ‘Jai Telangana’ across villages and influenced parents to support the movement. He assured teachers that the people’s government will remain proactive in addressing their demands and concerns.

The Chief Minister also stressed the need for a new education policy, for which the government has already set up an official committee. “The reforms we are introducing are already producing positive results. After a period of decline, student enrolment in government schools has increased by 3 lakh students. Currently, 24 lakh students are enrolled in 27,000 government schools, while 34 lakh students study in 10,000 private schools,” he noted.

CM Revanth Reddy praised government teachers for their qualifications and social responsibility and emphasized that schools must provide more than just salaries. “Basic amenities must be ensured, and self-help groups have been entrusted with the management of schools under the Amma Adarsh Schools initiative. The government has sanctioned Rs 130 crore for this purpose,” he said. He appealed to teachers to actively participate in Mid-Day Meals with students to identify and rectify mistakes and to pledge to develop government schools that can compete with private institutions.

Focusing on skill development, the Chief Minister outlined ambitious initiatives, including Young India Residential Schools, envisaged as a global model of excellence, and a Skills University for providing employment-oriented skills to unemployed youth. He highlighted that 65 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) have been upgraded to Advanced Training Centers (ATCs) through a joint venture with Tata Company. Additionally, the state is establishing a Young India Sports University and Sports Academy to nurture talent and enhance India’s stature in sports. Teachers were urged to identify and encourage talented students in rural areas and create awareness that excelling in sports can lead to a successful future.

CM Reddy also emphasized the crucial role of teachers in addressing social challenges, including drug abuse awareness. He noted that the government has established the Eagle Force to curb drug trafficking and the smuggling of ganja across Telangana. Teachers were asked to play an active role in sensitizing students to the dangers of substance abuse.

In conclusion, the Chief Minister underlined that education is the key to changing the destiny of Telangana’s students. He called on teachers to guide students not only academically but also morally, socially, and physically. “Teachers are the cornerstone of nation-building. Together, we can ensure a bright and prosperous future for every child in Telangana,” he said.

The Teachers’ Day celebrations highlighted the government’s commitment to revitalizing the education sector, with a focus on recruitment, infrastructure development, skill enhancement, sports promotion, and societal awareness. CM Revanth Reddy’s address reiterated that teachers are central to shaping the state’s future, and their partnership is essential for achieving the government’s vision of an empowered, educated, and skilled Telangana.
