Submit Detailed Report on Wainganga –Nalganga River Linking Project by October 15; Send Funding Request to Centre – CM Fadnavis
Mumbai, Sept 2025 : The ambitious Wainganga–Nalganga River Linking Project will help resolve water scarcity in Vidarbha and Marathwada while ensuring sustainable irrigation for agriculture. To expedite the project, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis directed that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) be submitted to the state government by October 15, 2025. He also announced that a formal request for funding will be sent to the central government and necessary financial support will be arranged by the state.
The presentation of the Wainganga–Nalganga project was held at Sahyadri Guest House, Mumbai, under the chairmanship of CM Fadnavis. Water Resources Minister Girish Mahajan, Additional Chief Secretary of the Water Resources Department Deepak Kapoor, Principal Secretary of the Planning Department Saurabh Vijay, Secretary of the Water Resources Department Sanjay Belsare, Executive Director of the Vidarbha Irrigation Development Corporation Rajesh Sonatakke, Chief Engineer of the Gosikhurd Project Sanjay Gawali, Superintendent Engineer Mahadev Kadam, Superintendent Engineer of the Irrigation Project Investigation Board, Amravati Yogesh Dabhade, Executive Engineer Jitendra Turkhade, and other officials were present.
CM Fadnavis said that the project should be reviewed by the State-Level Technical Advisory Committee, and the DPR must be finalized and submitted to the government by October 15, 2025. He emphasized the need for time-bound planning and speedy execution. A letter will be sent to the Centre to request whether at least 25% of the project cost can be funded by the central government. The state will also provide the required financial support.
The Chief Minister further informed that survey work for the Gosikhurd to Lower Wardha stretch, which is part of the project’s first phase, has already been completed on schedule. He instructed that necessary environmental clearances be obtained promptly so that work on the first phase can begin without delay.
