Revenue System Should Use Its Capacity to Deliver Justice to the Needy in Minimum Time – Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule
Mumbai, Sept 2025 : The State Government is working with transparency and dynamism in a people-centric manner. The Revenue Department is directly linked to issues concerning the common people, and its officers have immense capacity. This capacity should be used to ensure that the needy get justice in the shortest possible time, in line with the government’s policies, said Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule.
A review meeting of the Konkan Revenue Department’s work was held at Sahyadri Guest House under the chairmanship of Minister Bawankule. Present at the meeting were Konkan Divisional Commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryawanshi, MLAs from the division including Deepak Kesarkar, Nilesh Rane, Vikrant Patil, Kiran Samant, Bhaskar Jadhav, Abu Azmi, Bhai Jagtap, Rajan Naik, Anant Nar, Murji Patel, Haroon Khan, Tukaram Kate, Manisha Chaudhary, Chitra Wagh, Vidya Thakur, Sulabha Gaikwad, along with District Collectors, Sub-Divisional Officers, and other officials.
Minister Bawankule said the officers and staff of the Revenue Department have the ability to improve the standard of living of the people. The performance of the Konkan division so far has been satisfactory. Pending hearings in quasi-judicial cases must be resolved within the next three months. Ongoing innovative works in the division should also be communicated to the people through various media. While maintaining the pace of work, unintentional mistakes may be tolerated, but deliberate errors will not be accepted, he cautioned.
Speaking about sand-related issues, the minister said that although the government has already taken a policy decision, the unique geographical conditions of Konkan may require policy modifications. He directed District Collectors to discuss with public representatives and present an action plan within 15 days. He also stressed the need to ensure that sand theft is prevented under any circumstances.
From September 17 to October 2, 2025, a “Service Fortnight” will be observed, during which initiatives supporting rural road development and the Housing for All campaign will be implemented. The Revenue Department must involve all public representatives in this campaign, the minister instructed.
On the occasion, Divisional Commissioner Dr. Suryawanshi presented an overview of the current status of revenue work in the Konkan division and gave details of the preparations for rural roads and the Housing for All campaign during the service fortnight. He also briefed about various innovative projects being implemented in different districts and assured that no eligible beneficiary would be deprived of benefits under social assistance schemes.
Minister Bawankule also instructed that a draft policy be prepared to freehold the temple inam lands in Konkan. He further directed that steps be taken urgently to fill vacant posts in the Revenue Department, conduct surveys of Koliwadas (fishing hamlets) and issue property cards, prepare and submit proposals regarding agricultural tax and deed cancellations for Mumbai and suburban districts, and issue licenses to all interested in producing artificial sand as per government norms.
He also considered the suggestions given by the MLAs present and reviewed pending works with District Collectors and Sub-Divisional Officers, instructing them to complete them at the earliest.
