Maharashtra–Iowa (USA) Partnership to Open New Doors of Cooperation in Various Sectors: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis

Mumbai, Sept 2025: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has said that the Maharashtra–Iowa (USA) partnership will open new avenues of cooperation in key sectors such as agriculture, biotechnology, financial services, infrastructure, renewable energy, and technology. He made this statement after the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Iowa.

MoU to Boost Innovation

Maharashtra has signed a historic MoU with Iowa, an agriculturally rich state in the United States, often called the “food basket of America” and recognized for its advancements in agriculture and agri-technology. CM Fadnavis expressed confidence that this agreement will create new opportunities in Maharashtra in areas such as AI-based farming, agri-technology, digitization, healthcare, vocational training and skill development, tourism, sports, biotechnology, socio-economic services, renewable energy, and infrastructure development.

The agreement was signed at the Taj Palace Hotel in Mumbai in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds. Also present were Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary of Higher and Technical Education Venu Gopal Reddy, Principal Secretary to the CM Ashwini Bhide, Director of Nanaji Krishi Sanjeevani Project Parimal Singh, CM’s investment advisor Kaustubh Dhavse, along with Iowa’s Agriculture Secretary Mike Naig, Development Authority Director Debi Durham, and other dignitaries.

At the press conference, CM Fadnavis said:
“Iowa is a leading state in production and agri-technology. This agreement is a major opportunity for Maharashtra’s agriculture, technology, and industry sectors. Through joint collaboration with Iowa University and agricultural universities, cutting-edge technologies will be brought to Maharashtra. India’s progress in renewable energy has been remarkable, and this partnership will further boost new projects in this sector.”

He further added:
“Maharashtra has earlier signed sister-state agreements with Japan and Germany, which enhanced trade, industry, and cultural exchanges. This is the first agreement with a U.S. state, and it will strengthen India–U.S. relations. Governor Kim Reynolds has expressed her commitment to a long-term partnership with Maharashtra, under which delegations from Iowa will visit India annually, while delegations from Maharashtra will visit Iowa. Knowledge sharing across sectors will contribute to the growth of both states.”

CM Fadnavis also said:
“This agreement aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘global cooperation and international partnerships for states.’ It will open new avenues for farmers, students, entrepreneurs, and researchers, accelerating Maharashtra’s growth.”

Long-Term Partnership Assured – Governor Kim Reynolds

Governor Kim Reynolds expressed delight, saying:
“It is a matter of pride for us to partner with Maharashtra, one of the most dynamic states in India. This agreement is a strategic decision that will drive innovation, enhance economic prosperity, and promote global cooperation. Both states will establish new projects in industrial, educational, and agricultural sectors. Annual visits by delegations will further strengthen this collaboration.”
