Deputy CM Ajit Pawar recalled, “During the COVID-19 period, the foundation stone of this auditorium was laid by me, and today I have had the privilege of inaugurating it. We must preserve the heritage structures safeguarded by our forefathers. Dr. Chintamanrao Deshmukh had an illustrious administrative career and made significant contributions to the country. While abroad, he even named his residence ‘Roha’ after his hometown. Dr. Deshmukh not only made his mark in India but also on the world stage.”
He further emphasized the importance of art, culture, literature, and sports, stating that such a grand structure must host meaningful public programs. He also urged proposals for the development of the Ashtavinayak temple in Raigad district and highlighted that projects should be transparent, high-quality, and satisfactory for the public.
The auditorium is equipped with modern facilities including comfortable seating, advanced sound and lighting systems, a spacious air-conditioned hall, parking, canteen, and waiting area. It will serve as a rightful platform for art lovers and artists of Roha and surrounding areas and will play an important role in hosting cultural programs across the state.
On the occasion of the inauguration, artists of the play “Moru Chi Mavshi” were felicitated and wished success for their performance. It was expressed that the auditorium will provide a new dimension to art and culture through plays, music, dance, lectures, cultural workshops, and educational activities for students.
In her address, Women and Child Development Minister Ms. Aditi Tatkare said:
“This inauguration is a historic moment for all of us. The foundation stone was laid in 2020–21, and today the auditorium has been completed. Theatre is often considered the mirror of culture, and with this inauguration, we are all witnesses to history. Dr. Chintamanrao Deshmukh, India’s first Finance Minister, lends his name to this auditorium, which makes the occasion even more significant. Roha already has the distinction of hosting the largest statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and with this auditorium, art and theatre culture will further thrive. I thank Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy CM Eknath Shinde for ensuring financial support for this project. It is our duty to carry this history forward to the next generation.”
MP Sunil Tatkare said:
“With the blessings of Dhaveer Maharaj, I have had the opportunity to serve the people of Roha. The younger generation will now experience the cultural programs hosted in this auditorium. Roha has a strong base of art and literature enthusiasts, and this auditorium will give new wings to the arts. It is now our collective responsibility to keep this auditorium clean. Today’s inaugural play, starring actor Bharat Jadhav, is truly a cultural festival for us all.”
The event began with the traditional lighting of the lamp and was attended by government officials, staff from various departments, and a large number of citizens from Roha.
