Urban Housing Gets a New Boost in Uttar Pradesh – ₹735.94 Crore Sanctioned
Lucknow, Sept 2025 : The Urban Development Department of the Uttar Pradesh Government, with the approval granted by the Hon’ble Governor, has sanctioned ₹735.94 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) 2.0 for the financial year 2025-26 to provide affordable housing for the urban poor. Along with the sanction, directions have also been issued to ensure transparency and accountability in the utilization of funds.
Under this sanction, the amount has been allocated from three different grant heads ₹548.98 crore from Grant No. 37, ₹183.98 crore from Grant No. 83, and ₹2.98 crore from Grant No. 81. The total sanctioned amount includes contributions from both the Central and State Governments.
The department has clarified that the sanctioned funds will be used only for the purposes for which they have been approved. Every house constructed under PMAY (Urban) 2.0 will be subject to geo-tagging and photographic documentation, while construction will strictly follow the National Building Code (NBC) standards and incorporate disaster-resilient features.
The government has further directed that in case of any misuse, the entire amount along with interest will have to be refunded to the Government of India. It has also been mandated that SUDA and DUDA ensure no prior funding for these projects has been sanctioned from any other source.
The withdrawal of funds will also take place under strict financial discipline. Funds can only be withdrawn with the approval of the Chief Secretary, Secretary, Special Secretary, or Deputy Secretary of the Urban Employment and Poverty Alleviation Programme Department.
The department has described this decision as a significant step towards providing housing facilities for the urban poor. Principal Secretary of the Urban Development Department, Shri Amrit Abhijat, stated that this approval will play a vital role in achieving the targets of PM Awas Yojana (Urban) 2.0 and in fulfilling the vision of “Housing for All.”
