Asia Cup 2025: India Beat Pakistan by 7 Wickets to Enter Super Four

Dubai, Sept 2025 – The much-awaited India–Pakistan clash in the Asia Cup 2025 lived up to expectations, with India registering a comprehensive seven-wicket victory at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The win has significantly boosted India’s chances of qualifying for the Super Four stage.

Electric Atmosphere

The stadium was packed with spectators, their cheers and chants turning the arena into a sea of blue and green. The anticipation was heightened by the political backdrop, as tensions between the two nations had made the very prospect of the contest controversial. Following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India launched Operation Sindoor, dismantling several terror camps across the border. Despite protests against the cricketing encounter, the Asia Cup’s group draw ensured the arch-rivals met in Group A, creating one of the tournament’s most-awaited fixtures.

Pakistan’s Struggles: 127/9 in 20 Overs

Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha won the toss and chose to bat first, but the decision backfired. India’s new-ball pair Mohammed Shami and Hardik Pandya struck early blows, putting the top order under immense pressure.

Sahibzada Farhan top-scored with a fighting 40 off 44 balls, holding the innings together, while Shaheen Afridi provided late fireworks with an unbeaten 33 off just 16 deliveries. Apart from these two, only Fakhar Zaman (17), Faheem Ashraf (11), and Sufiyan Muqeem (10) reached double digits. The rest of the line-up crumbled.

India’s bowlers delivered a clinical performance. Kuldeep Yadav spun his way to 3 wickets, while Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah picked up two apiece. Hardik Pandya and Varun Chakraborty chipped in with one wicket each. Pakistan’s innings closed at 127/9 in 20 overs, leaving India with a modest chase.

India’s Chase: Steady and Controlled

Chasing 128, India began aggressively. Shubman Gill fell early for 10 runs, stumped by wicketkeeper Mohammad Haris off Sam Ayub’s bowling. His dismissal brought in-form opener Abhishek Sharma to the fore. He blazed his way to a quick 31 off 13 balls, hitting 4 boundaries and 2 sixes before being caught by Faheem Ashraf, again off Ayub’s bowling.

From there, the experienced duo Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli anchored the chase with measured batting. Rohit struck fluent drives while Kohli rotated the strike, ensuring India stayed on course. Both batsmen kept the required rate in check before Rohit departed, leaving captain Suryakumar Yadav to finish the job. Together with Tilak Verma, he guided India home with confidence, sealing victory by 7 wickets with overs to spare.

Captains React

Speaking after the win, India captain Suryakumar Yadav praised the team’s all-round effort. “We played as a unit today. The bowlers set the tone early, and the batsmen carried it through. It’s a big win in the context of the tournament.”

Pakistan skipper Salman Ali Agha admitted his side fell short. “We didn’t capitalize with the bat and gave away early momentum. Credit to India for their disciplined performance. We’ll regroup and come back stronger.”
