BRS Shifts Focus to 10 Rebel-Hit Constituencies Ahead of Local Polls

Hyderabad, Sept 2025 : Nearly eighteen months after 10 MLAs broke away from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), the party has shifted its focus to the affected constituencies in a bid to strengthen its cadre and reassure grassroots workers. Party sources said BRS president and former chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has tasked senior leaders, including working president K.T. Rama Rao and senior MLA T. Harish Rao, with taking charge of these areas.

Their mandate is to prepare workers and second-line leadership for the upcoming local and urban body elections while boosting morale among the party’s core base. Sources indicated that the leadership may soon appoint new constituency in-charges or entrust former ministers with supervisory responsibilities. These leaders are expected to hold regular review meetings, participate in party programmes, and begin identifying potential candidates for the next assembly elections.

The 10 constituencies affected by the defections include Banswada, Jagtial, Rajendranagar, Serilingampally, Chevella, Gadwal, Khairatabad, Bhadrachalam, Station Ghanpur, and Patancheru. The sitting MLAs from these seats are alleged to have aligned with the Congress. However, most have formally communicated to the Telangana Assembly Speaker that they remain part of the BRS, allowing them to avoid disqualification under anti-defection provisions.

Party insiders say the BRS leadership views this as a crucial test of organizational strength. By rallying its cadre and reinforcing local structures, the party hopes to send a clear message that defections at the top will not weaken its presence on the ground.
