“CM Launches ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ Urban Forest Campaign, Statewide Until Aug 31”
Gandhinagar : Inspired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s nationwide “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, which aims to bring this initiative to urban areas, the Urban Forest Campaign will be held across the state until August 31, 2024. Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel launched the campaign by planting a Banyan tree in the Koba area of the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign on World Environment Day, June 5, 2024. To extend this noble environmental conservation initiative to urban areas, the Urban Forest Campaign will be held statewide until August 31, 2024, under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel. The Chief Minister inaugurated the campaign by planting a Banyan tree in the Koba area of the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation.
The Urban Forest Campaign seeks to enhance forest cover in urban areas by extending the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative across all 157 municipalities and 165 urban local bodies. To raise awareness about individual responsibility for environmental protection, the campaign will include various programs such as urban afforestation, Miyawaki forests, and green space development, with active participation from citizens, dignitaries, and organizations. As part of the special “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” mega campaign, tree planting will be carried out in designated wards or zones within municipal and municipal corporation areas. Protective measures, such as fencing or walls, will be installed around these areas to protect the newly planted saplings.
Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel launched the Urban Forest Campaign from Koba in the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation area, where each dignitary participated by planting a tree. An urban forest will be established on a plot exceeding 4,700 square meters in Koba, with approximately 1,500 saplings of Neem, Mango, Tamarind, Borasali, and Amla to be planted. The event was attended by Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation Mayor Smt. Mira Patel, Gandhinagar (S) MLA Shri Alpesh Thakor, Gandhinagar (N) MLA Smt. Rita Patel, Deputy Mayor Shri Natvarji Thakor, Gandhinagar District Collector Shri Mehul Dave, Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation Commissioner Shri J.N. Vaghela, along with other dignitaries and a large number of citizens.
