Chief Minister Holds Review Meeting on New GST Rates and Swadeshi Campaign with Public Representatives
Sept 2025 : Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami held a review meeting on Sunday through virtual mode with ministers, MLAs, and other public representatives of the state regarding the new GST rates and the Swadeshi campaign.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister said that the new GST rates will come into effect across the country from September 22. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman for this historic decision.
The Chief Minister said that in order to ensure that the benefits of the new rates quickly reach the common people and the business community, a large-scale public awareness campaign will be launched in the state. He urged all public representatives to conduct awareness programs in their respective areas from September 22 to 29. During this period, the ministers in charge will lead the campaign in their districts, and MLAs will lead it in their constituencies.
The Chief Minister said that the revised GST rates will strengthen the state’s economy and accelerate the movement towards “Vocal for Local” and “Local to Global.” He highlighted that Uttarakhand’s umbrella brand House of Himalayas, 27 GI-tagged products, the One District Two Products scheme, along with other local handicrafts and agricultural produce, will receive a significant boost from the new tax framework. This will increase opportunities for self-employment and help realize the vision of a self-reliant Uttarakhand.
He emphasized that all departments and bodies must make continuous efforts to ensure the success of this campaign. Meetings should be organized at the Gram Sabha and municipal levels to provide detailed information to rural and urban populations. At the same time, the Industry Department has been instructed to make GI-tagged products and the One District Two Products scheme stronger and more market-oriented.
The Chief Minister stressed that the awareness campaign should not remain limited to publicity but must ensure active participation and involvement of the common people. For this, street plays, folk songs, and other cultural mediums will be used so that the message reaches people easily and effectively. He also said that various media platforms will be utilized to spread information to citizens and business communities.
He added that after the implementation of the new GST rates, not only will business facilitation increase, but both consumers and producers will benefit. Local-level productivity and marketing processes will gain transparency, and even small entrepreneurs will be able to connect with national and global markets.
In the meeting, the Chief Minister expressed hope that all public representatives would take an active role in this campaign and turn it into a people’s movement. He said that every citizen’s contribution is important in strengthening the economic power of the country and the state.
