Over 40,000 Pregnant Women Examined in Two Days under Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan

Campaign held in 843 health institutions; timely identification and management of more than 10,000 high-risk pregnancies
Program based on the theme—“Chhattisgarh’s Mother, Everyone’s Responsibility”

Raipur, Sept 2025 : Under the ambitious scheme of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, “Swasth Naari, Sashakt Parivar” campaign, special health sessions are being organized in Chhattisgarh for maternal safety. As part of the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA), on 24 and 25 September, these sessions were conducted in 843 government health institutions across the state, in which more than 40,000 pregnant women participated. They were provided with free health check-ups, counseling, and treatment facilities.

The special campaign, based on the theme “Chhattisgarh’s Mother, Everyone’s Responsibility”, primarily aims to reduce maternal mortality in the state and ensure the timely identification and proper treatment of high-risk pregnant women. Conducted by the Health Department, this campaign has not only strengthened access to healthcare services but also promoted public participation and increased awareness regarding maternal safety.

During these sessions, important health services like hemoglobin, blood pressure, weight, blood tests, ultrasound, and nutritional counseling were provided. During this, more than 10,000 women were identified in the category of High-Risk Pregnancy and brought under expert medical consultation and continuous monitoring, making timely treatment of potential complications possible.

More than 6,000 women also underwent ultrasonography under this campaign. This ensured timely identification of complications and concrete action towards treatment. Especially for women in remote areas, these services proved particularly beneficial.

To monitor the program, senior officers at the state and district levels directly inspected 187 sessions. These inspections were important in ensuring the quality of services, transparency of procedures, and real access of benefits to the target beneficiaries.

In Bilaspur district, specialist medical services reached every primary health center

Within this campaign, Bilaspur district presented a remarkable example in the field of maternal health. With the cooperation of the Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India and the Indian Medical Association, specialist medical services were delivered to every primary health center of the district.

Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai said that with the resolve of “Chhattisgarh’s Mother, Everyone’s Responsibility”, the government is giving top priority to maternal and child health. The examination of more than 40,000 pregnant women in two days under PMSMA, and the identification of more than 10,000 high-risk pregnancies, proves that our health services are reaching effectively even in remote regions. Bringing down maternal mortality and ensuring safe motherhood for every sister is our commitment, and this is not just a health issue but a strong foundation for empowered families and a prosperous society.

Health Minister Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal said that the wide-scale arrangement of check-ups, counseling, and treatment for pregnant women across the state under PMSMA reflects the government’s seriousness regarding maternal health. The examination of more than 40,000 women and the identification of more than 10,000 high-risk pregnancies within two days proves that timely diagnosis and expert services can significantly reduce maternal mortality.

Main Objective of the Campaign

The main objective of this campaign is to provide timely complete check-ups, counseling, and treatment facilities to pregnant women. Under it, along with local doctors, teams of specialist doctors examined anemia, blood pressure, sugar levels, fetal condition, weight, etc. They also provided information related to antenatal care, nutrition, safe delivery, and newborn care. This initiative will not only reduce maternal mortality but also, for the first time, provide women in rural and remote areas with easy access to specialist services.

The Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan is organized on the 9th and 24th of every month, but considering the “Swasth Naari, Sashakt Parivar” campaign, in September its scope was extended by three additional days so that not a single pregnant woman is deprived of essential health services.
