“Be a SDO(C)/BDO for a Day” Successfully Conducted at Tlabung RD Block

Lunglei, Sept 2025: The “Be a SDO(C)/BDO for a Day” programme was successfully conducted today at Tlabung Sub-Division/RD Block with enthusiastic participation from students.

The initiative is a follow-up to the “Be Deputy Commissioner for a Day” programme held on 27th August 2025 at Lunglei. Replicating the concept at the block level, the programme sought to provide students with first-hand exposure to governance, the functioning of the Block Development Office and the implementation of flagship rural development programmes.

Six meritorious students took part in the event: Lalpekhlua Jongte (Class XI) from Higher Secondary School, Tlabung; Vanlalruati (Class XI) and Vanlalrinfeli (Class XII) from Tlabung Senior Secondary School; Subhodip Majumdar (Class X) from Govt High School, Tlabung; and K. Lalnunpuii (Class X) and Remtluangpuii (Class IX) from Modern High School, Tlabung.

The students were picked up by the official SDO(C) vehicle and brought to the SDO (Civil) Office, where they were formally received by SDO(C)/BDO Pu Moses Lalfakawma Tlau and staff. The programme began with an orientation session introducing the structure of rural administration and the role of the Block Development Officer (BDO). Students were also given insights into flagship schemes including MGNREGA, Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (Gramin), Mizoram State Rural Livelihood Mission, Swachh Bharat Mission, among others.

Through interactive presentations and role-play exercises, the students learned how a BDO plans, supervises and monitors development activities. The highlight of the programme was a simulation exercise where each participant acted as the BDO, making decisions on MGNREGA works, grievance redressal and prioritisation of projects.

The students actively engaged in the activities and expressed that the programme broadened their understanding of governance while inspiring them to take greater interest in public service and community development. Teachers accompanying the participants also lauded the initiative for its practical approach to civic education.
