Chief Minister Rekha Gupta travelled by Metro and DTC bus, gave the message of public participation through ‘Metro Monday’

Ministers and senior officials also used public transport under the ‘Mera Bharat, Mera Yogdan’ campaign

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said fuel conservation and use of public transport are responsibilities towards national interest

New Delhi, May 2026 : Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta on Monday participated in the ‘Metro Monday’ initiative launched under the ‘Mera Bharat, Mera Yogdan’ public campaign, conveying the message of public transport usage, fuel conservation and responsible citizen participation. Following the Chief Minister’s appeal, all Ministers of the Delhi Government and senior government officials also used Metro Rail and buses of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) to commute to their offices.

The Chief Minister began her day with a message of public participation. She walked from her residence to Lok Niwas to attend a meeting chaired by Lieutenant Governor Sardar Taranjit Singh Sandhu. Thereafter, the Chief Minister travelled by electric car to Kashmere Gate Metro Station and used Delhi Metro services from there to ITO Metro Station. After reaching ITO Metro Station, the Chief Minister used the feeder bus service to travel to her office at the Delhi Secretariat. Cabinet Ministers in the Delhi Government Shri Parvesh Sahib Singh and Shri Ravinder Indraj were also present with the Chief Minister during the journey.

The Chief Minister said that the ‘Mera Bharat, Mera Yogdan’ campaign is not merely a government initiative, but a movement of public participation. Its objective is to convey to every citizen that even a small effort made in national interest plays a significant role in strengthening the country’s energy security, environmental protection and economic balance.

The Chief Minister said that the Delhi Government is carrying forward as a public movement the appeal made by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji to the citizens for fuel conservation, use of public transport and adoption of a responsible lifestyle. She stated that ‘Metro Monday’ is an important initiative in the same direction, aimed at encouraging people to adopt public transport at least one day a week.

The Chief Minister further said that the Delhi Government itself is setting an example by undertaking several major initiatives at the governmental level. These include a work-from-home arrangement for two days a week, reduction in the use of government vehicles, promotion of online meetings and maximum use of public transport. She said that greater use of Metro and DTC buses would not only help save fuel, but would also play an effective role in reducing traffic congestion and pollution. The Delhi Government’s objective is to make the national capital cleaner, smoother and more environment-friendly.

The Chief Minister appealed to the people of Delhi to make greater use of public transport as far as possible. She said that this would not only help conserve fuel for the nation, but would also significantly contribute towards reducing problems such as pollution and traffic congestion in Delhi. The Chief Minister stated that if people begin incorporating the Metro, DTC buses and other modes of public transport into their daily routine, the national capital can be made cleaner, more efficient and environment-friendly. According to the Chief Minister, the Delhi Government is continuously working to improve the public transport system and strengthen last-mile connectivity so that people do not face any inconvenience. She said that under the ‘Metro Monday’ initiative, Ministers, MLAs and officials of the Delhi Government had also used public transport in an effort to inspire people. Expressing gratitude to the people of Delhi, the Chief Minister said that with everyone’s cooperation, the goal of a developed Delhi in line with the vision of a developed India would certainly be achieved.
