IBSA Condemns Israeli Attacks on Gaza, Calls for Permanent Ceasefire
Key Demands of IBSA:
- Permanent ceasefire to end Israeli attacks on Gaza.
- Complete withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Strip.
- Immediate release of all hostages held by Hamas.
- Adherence to international law, including humanitarian and human rights law.
- Commitment to a two-state solution ensuring peace and security for both peoples.
New York, Sept 2025 : India, Brazil, and South Africa (IBSA) have strongly condemned the ongoing Israeli attacks on Gaza, voicing deep concern over the worsening humanitarian crisis in the occupied Palestinian territory. The issue dominated discussions at the IBSA trilateral meeting held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Brazil’s Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, and South Africa’s Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga represented their countries at the meeting.
The grouping’s statement of solidarity comes just days after Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia formally recognized the Palestinian state in response to the escalating conflict. IBSA specifically denounced the “use of starvation” as a weapon of war and renewed its call for a permanent ceasefire. The ministers stressed that peace efforts must lead to the cessation of Israeli strikes, the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, and the release of all hostages held by Hamas.
In a joint statement, IBSA declared: “The Ministers expressed grave concern over the situation in the occupied Palestinian territory and strongly condemned the Israeli attacks against Gaza, which, even after nearly two years, continue to cause unprecedented suffering to the civilian population, devastated by death, destruction, forced displacement, and famine.”
The trilateral bloc underlined that international law, particularly international humanitarian law and international human rights law, must be upheld. The ministers condemned all violations of humanitarian norms, noting that the targeting of civilians and the deliberate blocking of essential supplies amounted to severe breaches of international law.
IBSA also highlighted the need for greater global unity in addressing the conflict, stressing that prolonged hostilities only fuel instability in the Middle East and beyond. The ministers reiterated their support for a negotiated two-state solution that ensures peace, security, and dignity for both Palestinians and Israelis.
With its firm stance, IBSA has joined a growing international chorus demanding accountability and urgent measures to protect civilians, reaffirming the grouping’s role as an advocate of justice, multilateralism, and humanitarian values on the global stage.
