Chennai, Sept 2025: Honourable Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr. M.K. Stalin today visited Karur to meet the families affected by the recent devastating floods and personally convey his condolences. The Chief Minister described the tragedy as one of immense and unprecedented grief—an event that should never happen again.
During his visit, Mr. Stalin toured hospitals treating the injured and met with survivors. He expressed his deep sorrow, noting that the images of those affected and the suffering witnessed remain etched in his heart. Despite issuing immediate relief measures and directives, the Chief Minister said he could not return home, as his thoughts remain with the people of Karur.
The floods claimed 41 lives, including men and women. Condolences have been formally communicated to the families of the deceased, and financial assistance has been provided to help them cope with their loss. The government is also ensuring that those receiving treatment in hospitals are provided comprehensive medical care at no cost.
The district administration, along with officials from the Health and Justice Departments, have conducted thorough inspections of the affected areas and coordinated relief operations to ensure prompt assistance reaches those in need. Following these surveys, the government has assured that additional measures will be taken to prevent further loss and support the affected communities.
Mr. Stalin strongly urged citizens, political parties, and public organizations not to exploit this tragedy for political or personal gain. He emphasized that the victims were not affiliated with any particular party, and their families are an integral part of the Tamil community. In this period of grief, the Chief Minister called for calm and unity, stressing that human life and relief efforts must take precedence over political disputes or personal differences.
He also highlighted that strict regulations and guidelines will be followed for all future relief and support activities. Cooperation from all parties, organizations, and citizens is essential to ensure orderly and effective assistance.
The Chief Minister concluded by reminding everyone that Tamil Nadu has historically faced numerous natural disasters and that it is the collective responsibility of the government, public bodies, and citizens to prevent avoidable tragedies in the future. “Human life is above all,” he stated, “and the safety and well-being of our people must always remain our top priority.”
