Tamil Nadu CM M. K. Stalin Inaugurates “C. Anbazhagan Flyover” in Chennai for Smooth Traffic Flow

Chennai, Sept 2025: Under the Chennai Municipal Corporation, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr. M. K. Stalin, inaugurated the newly constructed “C. Anbazhagan Flyover” at Thiyagaraya Nagar, connecting West Usman Road and C.I.T. Nagar main road. The flyover was built at a cost of ₹164.92 crore and is named in memory of former Assembly member C. Anbazhagan.

The inauguration was held today (30.09.2025) in Thiyagaraya Nagar, where CM Stalin ceremoniously opened the flyover by garlanding and paying tribute to the statue of C. Anbazhagan.

Considering the increasing traffic, the Chennai Municipal Corporation has built 13 new flyovers over the past nine years at a total cost of ₹300.16 crore to ensure smoother movement for citizens. This new flyover, constructed at a cost of ₹164.92 crore, is the first of its kind to connect West Usman Road with C.I.T. Nagar and facilitates smoother traffic flow across multiple key junctions, including West Usman Road – Market Road, West Usman Road – Perambur Main Road, and West Usman Road – C.I.T. Nagar North.

The flyover stretches 1,200 meters in length and 8.4 meters in width, supported by 53 iron pillars, and merges with the existing 800-meter concrete flyover on West Usman Road. Access ramps have been constructed from Thiyagaraya Nagar to the new flyover (120 meters), and from West Usman Road to Thiyagaraya Nagar (100 meters). Additionally, 6-meter-wide service roads have been built on both sides of the flyover with pedestrian walkways.

Being one of the longest flyovers in Chennai, the project benefits approximately 40,000 commuters daily and provides convenience to around 2 lakh residents in the surrounding areas. The flyover’s protective walls are decorated with murals depicting the cultural heritage and architecture of Thiyagaraya Nagar and nearby regions, enhancing both aesthetics and local pride.

The inauguration event was attended by senior officials of Chennai Municipal Corporation, including Commissioner K. N. Kannuru, Health and Public Welfare Secretary M. Subramanian, Hindu Religious Endowments Secretary P. K. Sekar, Mayor R. Priya, MPs and MLAs, other government officials, and representatives of local bodies, who witnessed the opening ceremony along with Chief Minister Stalin.
