Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge Undergoes Pacemaker Procedure in Bengaluru, Stable

Bengaluru, Oct 2025 : Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge was admitted to MS Ramaiah Hospital in Bengaluru on Tuesday for a planned pacemaker implantation procedure, his son and Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge confirmed on Wednesday.

Priyank Kharge, who holds the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, and IT/BT portfolios in Karnataka, said the veteran leader was advised to undergo the procedure after experiencing fever, fatigue, and leg pain.

“Mallikarjun Kharge has been advised to undergo a pacemaker implantation and has been admitted for the planned procedure. He is stable and recovering well. We are deeply grateful for your concern and good wishes,” Priyank Kharge said in a statement.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah visited the Congress chief at the hospital on Wednesday, inquiring about his health and wishing him a speedy recovery. Speaking to the media after the visit, the CM reassured supporters, saying, “Kharge ji came for a routine check-up after feeling minor uneasiness. He is doing well and is expected to be discharged tomorrow.”

Hospital sources also confirmed that Kharge remains under medical observation but is stable, with doctors expecting to discharge him soon.

The 82-year-old leader has maintained an active political schedule despite health concerns. He is slated to travel to Nagaland on October 7, where he is scheduled to address a rally at Naga Solidarity Park.

This is not the first time the veteran politician has faced health issues during public engagements. In September last year, Kharge was hospitalised in Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir, after his health deteriorated while addressing a rally. He had experienced shortness of breath and nearly fainted on stage before being assisted by party workers.

Following that incident, Kharge had remarked that he intended to live long enough to see Prime Minister Narendra Modi voted out of office. Interestingly, despite political differences, Prime Minister Modi had called Kharge at the time to inquire about his health and convey his wishes for a speedy recovery.

Kharge, who has served in public life for more than five decades, remains one of the most senior and influential leaders in the Congress party. His latest health update has drawn concern from political colleagues and supporters across the country, but doctors have assured that his condition is stable and that the pacemaker procedure was carried out as planned.
