Goa Shipyard Observes Swachh Bharat Diwas on Gandhi Jayanti under “Special Campaign 5.0”

Oct 2027 : Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), a Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, solemnly observed Gandhi Jayanti by celebrating Swachh Bharat Diwas as part of the ongoing Special Campaign 5.0 from 2nd to 31st October 2025, reaffirming its commitment to Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of a clean, green and sustainable India.

The programme was led by Shri Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay, Chairman & Managing Director, GSL, in the august presence of Shri Girish Borkar, Chairperson, Mormugao Municipal Council, along with senior management, employees, CISF personnel and Safai Mitras.

The observance commenced with the administration of the Swachhta Pledge by Shri Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay, reiterating GSL’s dedication to hygiene, waste reduction and sustainable practices. This was followed by a large-scale cleanliness drive from GSL premises to St. Andrew’s Circle, covering major parts of Vasco City. The campaign focused on removal of plastic and dry waste, safe disposal, and upkeep of public spaces.

As part of the fortnight-long Swachhotsav 2025 under the Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 Preparatory Phase which was from 17th to 30th September 2025, GSL had actively engaged local residents, schools, and community groups to spread awareness on cleanliness, waste segregation, and environmental stewardship inspired by Mahatma Gandhi.

The Special Campaign 5.0, an initiative of the Government of India, calls upon citizens and institutions to join hands in building a cleaner and greener India.
