Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge Discharged After Successful Pacemaker Surgery
Bengaluru, Oct 2025: All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Mallikarjun Kharge has been discharged from M.S. Ramaiah Hospital in Bengaluru following a successful pacemaker implantation procedure, the Indian National Congress (INC) announced on Thursday.
In a statement posted on Facebook, the party said: “Honourable Congress President Shri Mallikarjun Kharge ji has been discharged from the hospital this evening. He is doing well and would like to thank each one of you for your good wishes. He looks forward to resuming his activities shortly as advised.”
Kharge was admitted earlier this week after experiencing fatigue and breathing difficulties, reportedly following an intensive campaign schedule in Bihar. Doctors recommended a pacemaker implantation, which was carried out successfully on Wednesday. His family confirmed that he is expected to resume official duties from October 3.
Karnataka Minister for RDPR, IT and BT, Priyank Kharge, who is also his son, issued a statement assuring supporters that the Congress president’s health remained stable. “The pacemaker implantation was a short and minor procedure. He has been stable since and is expected to resume work and attend all scheduled engagements. Our gratitude for the concern, support, and affection extended by all,” he said in a post on X.
The health update drew messages of support from across the political spectrum. Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Kharge on Thursday, wishing him a speedy recovery. In a post on X, the Prime Minister said: “Spoke to Kharge Ji. Enquired about his health and wished him a speedy recovery. Praying for his continued well-being and long life.”
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also visited Kharge in the hospital to check on his recovery and conveyed his best wishes for good health.
The 82-year-old Congress veteran, who has been actively leading his party’s campaign in Bihar, was advised to undergo the procedure after experiencing fever, leg pain, and extreme fatigue. Party leaders said he is keen to return to the campaign trail soon, following medical advice.
Kharge, who took over as AICC President in October 2022, has remained a key figure in the Congress’s national strategy. His quick recovery and planned return to work are expected to bolster the party’s ongoing election campaign in Bihar and beyond.
