CP Radhakrishnan Takes Oath as Governor of Maharashtra

Newly appointed Governor of Maharashtra CP Radhakrishnan took the oath of office today. Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay of the Bombay High Court administered the oath in a ceremony held at the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan.

Present at the ceremony were Governor’s wife Mrs. Sumathi R., Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, Assembly Speaker Adv. Rahul Narvekar, Cabinet Members, Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik, Director General of Police Rashmi Shukla, Brihanmumbai Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Bhushan Gagrani, Additional Chief Secretary and Chief Etiquette Officer Manisha Mhaiskar, Additional Chief Secretaries of various departments, Principal Secretaries, and Secretary, along with Governor Radhakrishnan’s family members.

The ceremony began with Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik reading out the order of President Draupadi Murmu regarding the Governor’s appointment. After the oath, Chief Minister Shinde, Deputy Chief Ministers Fadnavis and Pawar greeted the new Governor.

CP Radhakrishnan took office as the Governor of Maharashtra on July 31, 2024. Previously, he served as the Governor of Jharkhand and also held additional charges as the Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry.

Mr. Radhakrishnan has been a prominent figure in Tamil Nadu politics and public life for four decades. Born on May 4, 1957, in Tirupur, Tamil Nadu, he graduated in Business Administration. He was first elected to the Lok Sabha from Coimbatore in 1998 and again in 1999.

During his five-year tenure as an MP, he chaired the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Textiles and was a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Public Enterprises (PSU) and the Parliamentary Advisory Committee on Finance. He also served on the Parliamentary Special Committee that investigated the Stock Exchange Scam.

In 2004, Mr. Radhakrishnan addressed the United Nations General Assembly as part of a Parliamentary delegation and was a member of the first Indian parliamentary delegation to visit Taiwan.

In 2016, he was appointed President of the Coir Board, Kochi, a position he held for four years, during which coir exports reached an all-time high of Rs 2532 crore.

On February 18, 2023, Mr. Radhakrishnan was appointed as the Governor of Jharkhand. Within his first four months, he visited all 24 districts of Jharkhand, interacting with citizens and district administrative officials. During his tenure, he also held additional charges as the Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry.

An accomplished athlete, Radhakrishnan was a college champion in table tennis and a long-distance runner. He is also interested in cricket and volleyball.

Mr. Radhakrishnan has traveled extensively, visiting countries including the USA, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Belgium, Netherlands, Turkey, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Egypt, UAE, Bangladesh, Indonesia, and Japan.

Governor CP Radhakrishnan Welcomed in Mumbai

The newly appointed Governor of Maharashtra, CP Radhakrishnan, arrived in Mumbai today. He was received at the airport by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik, State Director General of Police Rashmi Shukla, Brihanmumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar, Additional Chief Secretary of the Royal Etiquette Department Manisha Mhaiskar, and Under Secretary of the Royal Etiquette Department Milind Hardas.

Chief Minister Shinde, Deputy Chief Ministers Fadnavis and Pawar welcomed the Governor with bouquets. Governor Radhakrishnan then proceeded to Raj Bhavan.
