TVK Party to Strengthen Leadership and Event Safety Following Karur Tragedy
Chennai, Oct 2025: In the aftermath of the tragic stampede at a TVK rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, which claimed 41 lives and left over 100 injured on September 27, party president and actor Vijay is spearheading efforts to overhaul the organisation and tighten event safety measures.
According to party sources, Vijay is finalising a comprehensive restructuring plan aimed at strengthening TVK ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. The plan includes the creation of a dedicated volunteer force for event management and the identification of a fresh tier of second-line leadership to fill emerging gaps in the party hierarchy.
Eyewitnesses described the Karur tragedy as a result of “gross mismanagement” and inadequate crowd control. The rally venue, designed for only 2,000-3,000 people, saw nearly 30,000 supporters gather. Chaos erupted when Vijay climbed onto his campaign vehicle to greet the crowd, triggering a deadly stampede. The incident exposed major lapses in safety protocols and has drawn public outrage as well as legal scrutiny.
Learning from this disaster, Vijay intends to establish a trained volunteer force similar to those maintained by established Dravidian parties such as DMK, AIADMK, MDMK, and DMDK. This force will handle crowd management, security, and emergency response at TVK events across Tamil Nadu. Training workshops and safety drills for these volunteers are expected to be rolled out soon, ensuring that future rallies meet strict safety standards.
Meanwhile, the party is addressing a leadership vacuum created after several senior office-bearers, including general secretary Bussy Anand and election division management secretary Aadhav Arjun, stepped back amid ongoing legal challenges following the stampede. To fill this gap, Vijay is personally shortlisting experienced second-tier leaders, many of whom bring prior political experience from other parties.
Once announced, these leaders will tour the state, build local organisational strength, mentor cadres, and oversee election preparedness. Party insiders indicate that the unveiling of the new leadership team will be followed by the official launch of the volunteer force, along with statewide training programmes.
Vijay is determined to restore public confidence and present TVK as a disciplined, well-prepared political force. By strengthening leadership and implementing rigorous safety measures, the party aims to ensure that no incident like the Karur tragedy occurs again, while projecting TVK as a battle-ready outfit in the run-up to the 2026 elections.
This dual focus on organisational restructuring and crowd safety marks a crucial turning point for the party, reflecting Vijay’s commitment to both political strategy and the welfare of supporters.
