Mann Government’s ‘Roshan Punjab’ Mission: Freedom from Power Cuts for the People of Punjab

Chandigarh, Oct, 2025 : Punjab is set to bid farewell to power cuts. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s government has launched the ‘Roshan Punjab’ Mission, which promises 24-hour uninterrupted and affordable electricity across the state by next year. More than just a scheme, it is a mission to illuminate every home, every farm, and every industry in Punjab.

The government has made a massive investment of ₹5,000 crore, marking the largest expenditure in the history of Punjab’s power sector. The objective is to strengthen the entire electricity network so that power reaches every village and city without interruption.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann described the initiative as a major step toward accelerating Punjab’s development and restoring public confidence. He said, “No factory in Punjab will have to halt operations waiting for electricity, and no farmer will be left in darkness. Every home will receive round-the-clock power, that too at affordable rates.”

The project is being closely monitored by Power Minister Sanjeev Arora, while PSPCL Chairman Ajay Kumar Sinha and his team are working tirelessly to ensure reliable electricity supply across the state. The Mann government has implemented several concrete measures to ensure continuous power generation. A long-term coal supply agreement has been finalized with the Pachhwara mines, ensuring uninterrupted production. In addition, the government has taken over the GVK Thermal Power Plant to bring electricity generation entirely under the state’s control—ensuring that the benefits directly reach the people.

To further strengthen the state’s power infrastructure, new substations are being built, old ones are being upgraded, and new transmission lines are being laid. These improvements will help resolve voltage issues, reduce power cuts, and ensure faster restoration in case of outages.

In urban areas, a special project has been launched across 13 municipal corporations focusing on safety and cleanliness. Under this initiative, non-electrical cables are being removed from PSPCL poles, dangling power lines are being realigned, and open meter boxes are being enclosed—ensuring a safer and tidier environment for residents.

For citizen convenience, a modern call centre with 180 seats has been established in Mohali, further strengthening the 1912 power helpline for quicker grievance redressal.

The ultimate aim of the ‘Roshan Punjab’ Mission is to provide reliable, affordable, and uninterrupted electricity to all citizens. As Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann emphasized, “This is not just about power supply—it’s about laying the foundation for a brighter future for Punjab.”

With this initiative, every home, every field, and every industry in Punjab will truly shine—fulfilling the vision of ‘Roshan Punjab’.
