New Delhi, Oct 2025 : Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi and discussed the development of railway infrastructure in Uttarakhand.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister requested that the Dehradun and Haridwar railway stations be developed as Model Railway Stations. He also urged the Union Government to fully bear the cost of the Haridwar–Dehradun railway line doubling project, along with the expansion and strengthening of both stations.

The Union Minister agreed to develop the Haridwar and Dehradun stations as Model Stations and assured that the proposal for the full central funding of the Haridwar–Dehradun line doubling project would be examined and an appropriate decision would be taken.

The Chief Minister also requested the inclusion of Almora and Someshwar regions in the alignment of the Tanakpur–Bageshwar railway project and suggested that provisions for both tunnels and roads be incorporated into the plan. The Railway Minister assured that this suggestion would be duly considered.

CM Dhami further requested that the old Rishikesh Railway Station be completely closed and all rights over the land be transferred to the State Government. He said that if additional land is required at Yoganagari Railway Station for systematic operations after the closure of the old station, the State Government would consider the matter positively and extend full cooperation. The Railway Minister gave his in-principle approval to this proposal.

Additionally, responding to the Chief Minister’s request, the Union Railway Minister also agreed to increase the frequency of the Dehradun–Tanakpur train from once a week to three times a week.
