Sergio Gor Begins Four-Day Visit to India as New US Ambassador

Washington, Oct 2025 : Sergio Gor, the newly appointed US Ambassador to India, has commenced a four-day visit to India from October 9 to October 14. This marks his first official trip to the country since his Senate confirmation on October 7.

According to a statement from the US State Department, “U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor and Deputy Secretary for Management and Resources Michael J. Rigas will travel to India from October 9 to October 14. They will meet with Indian government counterparts to discuss a wide range of bilateral issues. The United States will continue to work with India to strengthen our strategic partnership and promote a safer, stronger, and more prosperous Indo-Pacific region.”

During his visit, Ambassador Gor and Deputy Secretary Rigas are expected to engage with Indian officials on strategic cooperation, trade, technology, energy security, and regional stability. Gor, 38, is the youngest US ambassador to India and a close aide of former President Donald Trump. Previously, he served as Director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office, overseeing the vetting of more than 4,000 appointments in the Trump administration. He will also serve as a special envoy for South and Central Asian affairs.

Speaking at an event at the Indian Embassy in Washington, DC, ahead of his trip, Gor described India as a “strategic partner whose trajectory will shape the region and beyond.” He noted, “India’s geographic position, economic growth, and military capabilities make it a cornerstone of regional stability and a critical part of promoting prosperity and advancing the security interests that our nations share. India is one of the most important relationships our nation has in the world.”

Gor emphasized that deepening defence and security cooperation would be a top priority. “This includes expanding joint military exercises, advancing co-development and co-production of defence systems, and concluding critical defence sales,” he said.

Earlier, Gor met Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. Following the meeting, the US State Department’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs stated that both leaders “look forward to further promoting the success of the US-India relationship.”

During his visit, Gor is expected to engage in high-level discussions to enhance bilateral ties, strengthen defence cooperation, and explore new avenues for economic and technological collaboration, reinforcing the US commitment to India as a key partner in the Indo-Pacific.

This visit highlights the continuation of a robust strategic partnership, with a focus on shared security, prosperity, and regional stability.
