Stay Away from Drugs—for Nation, Your Family and Yourself: PM Modi

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi virtually launched the nationwide ‘Nasha-Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp’ campaign from New Delhi on Sunday. The campaign aims to encourage young people to stay away from substance abuse, channel their energy towards nation-building and transform de-addiction into a nationwide people’s movement through public participation.

The launch programme was broadcast live across all States and Union Territories. Governors from 24 States and Chief Ministers from 11 States participated virtually, while special launch events were organised at 28 locations across the country. Jointly spearheaded by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, State Governments, Union Territory Administrations and the MY Bharat youth organisation, the campaign will continue for the next 100 weeks.

The initiative will encourage citizens, particularly the youth, to pledge to remain free from all forms of addiction. Every Sunday, special activities focusing on community service and public awareness will be organised across the country.

CM Dr. Yadav Participates in Launch from MANIT, Administers Anti-Drug Pledge

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav joined the national launch of the ‘Nasha-Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp’ campaign at Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT), Bhopal, organised by the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare. The Chief Minister administered a pledge to all participants to work towards a Drug-Free India and a Drug-Free Madhya Pradesh, urging them to stay away from every form of substance abuse and adopt a healthy, addiction-free lifestyle. He also listened to Prime Minister Modi’s virtual address from the MANIT campus.

The programme was attended by Minister for Sports and Youth Welfare and Cooperation Shri Vishvas Kailash Sarang, Additional Chief Secretary Shri Manu Srivastava, MANIT Director Prof. Manmohan Kapse, MY Bharat State Director Shri Mangalram Jakhad, Commissioner, Public Relations Shri Manish Singh, Collector Shri Priyank Mishra, faculty members, professors, students and a large number of youth volunteers.

States Should Implement the Campaign in Mission Mode: PM Modi

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi said, addressing the nation after launching the campaign, the initiative is meant for every individual, family, community and the nation as a whole. He recalled that during a spiritual event held in Kashi last year, the Kashi Declaration had called for a social movement to protect youth from substance abuse. The Chief Minister said that vision has now evolved into a nationwide campaign. The Prime Minister observed that when a young person falls into addiction, a dream is shattered and an entire family suffers. Substance abuse, he said, robs people of happiness and destroys their personality. He urged young people to stay away from every form of addiction for the sake of the nation, society, their families and themselves.

Prime Minister Shri Modi called upon all State Governments and Union Territories to implement the campaign in mission mode and organise weekly public outreach activities every Sunday to ensure maximum youth participation. He expressed satisfaction that more than one crore young people had already taken the pledge to remain drug-free on the campaign’s first day. The Prime Minister, appreciating the volunteers of the MY Bharat organisation,  expressed confidence that the campaign would reach every household and urged youth to actively contribute towards the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.

Addiction Is a Disease, Not a Crime: Union Minister Dr. Mandaviya

Union Minister for Labour and Employment, Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya said, while virtually addressing the programme from Amrit Vishwavidyapeetham in Faridabad, that a healthy society can only be built through healthy individuals. He said India is passing through its Amrit Kaal, and today’s youth represent the country’s ‘Amrit Generation’. The Union Minister said, referring to successful national initiatives such as the Swachh Bharat Mission and Fit India Movement, the newly launched anti-drug campaign would further strengthen the nation’s development journey.

Union Minister Dr. Mandaviya emphasised that addiction should be viewed as a disease rather than a crime and can be treated through timely intervention. Even a single exposure to drugs, he cautioned, can devastate an individual’s life. He described the campaign as a movement to create social awareness and stressed that protecting the youth from addiction is a shared responsibility essential for building a developed India.

Addiction is Root of Destruction; Liquor Prohibited in 19 Religious Towns: CM Dr. Yadav

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said, addressing the gathering before the national launch, that India is the world’s largest democracy and the youngest nation. He said, recalling Swami Vivekananda’s vision that the 21st century would belong to India because of its youth, that Prime Minister Modi’s leadership has inspired a nationwide movement to build a strong, capable and addiction-free India.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said the Madhya Pradesh Government is conducting awareness campaigns in every street, locality and village while taking stringent action against those involved in the illegal drug trade. He highlighted that the State has enforced liquor prohibition within the municipal and panchayat limits of 19 religious towns, resulting in the removal of liquor outlets from these areas. The Chief Minister noted that while roadside tobacco shops are gradually declining, newer forms of addiction are emerging to target young people. To curb illegal drug trafficking, the State Government has strengthened coordination with neighbouring States and intensified enforcement against organised drug networks.

CM Congratulates Police for ‘Nashe Se Doori Hai Zaroori 2.0’ Campaign

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav congratulated the Madhya Pradesh Police for successfully implementing the ‘Nashe Se Doori Hai Zaroori 2.0’ campaign. He said de-addiction cannot be achieved by a single department alone and requires active participation from the educated class as well as every section of society. The Chief Minister expressed confidence, referring to the Centre’s target of making India drug-free by 2029, that the country would overcome the social evil of addiction through collective resolve.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that under the determined leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, India has made remarkable progress in eliminating Left Wing Extremism. He noted that Madhya Pradesh had achieved the goal of becoming free from Naxalism ahead of the 31 March 2026 deadline and had also completely eradicated the menace of dacoity from the State.

Drug-Free India Is the Foundation of Viksit Bharat

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that a Drug-Free India is the first prerequisite for a Developed India, and drug-free youth are the nation’s greatest strength. He urged citizens to avoid every form of substance abuse, noting that addiction damages health, education, employment opportunities and social dignity while destroying families. He said the State Government remains highly sensitive towards crimes linked to substance abuse and is also creating rehabilitation opportunities for those affected. Describing the human body as a temple of pure thoughts, he called upon young people to recognise their inner strength, remain free from addiction and motivate others to do the same.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said, highlighting India’s rich civilisational heritage, that the country has given the world great spiritual leaders such as Lord Shri Ram, Lord Shri Krishna, Gautam Buddha and Lord Mahavir. He said that India’s culture inspires self-discipline and the philosophy of ‘Live and Let Live’, while its traditions of knowledge and yoga continue to inspire the world. The Chief Minister urged citizens to pledge that they would neither consume intoxicants nor allow others to fall into addiction, while spreading awareness throughout society. He appealed to youth, social organisations, principals, teachers, doctors, district administrations, police personnel and volunteers to actively participate in the campaign and transform it into a mass movement.

Collective Efforts Essential for a Drug-Free Society: Minister Shri Sarang

Minister for Sports and Youth Welfare Shri Vishvas Kailash Sarang said that addiction destroys society and that keeping young people away from substance abuse is essential for building a strong and self-reliant India. He said the State Government has undertaken several initiatives for de-addiction and urged the younger generation to pledge to remain free from all forms of addiction. The Minister called upon citizens to carry the message of de-addiction to every village, town, school, college and household, emphasising that the campaign would succeed only through collective effort and public participation.

The programme commenced with Chief Minister Dr. Yadav lighting the ceremonial lamp. The MY Bharat State Director proposed the vote of thanks at the conclusion of the event.
