Eastern Railways bolsters Swachh Neer (Clean Water) – ensuring safe & hygienic drinking water under Swachhata Pakhwada 2025 across different divisions.
Sealdah Division –
As part of the ongoing Swachhata Pakhwada Campaign 2025, the Sealdah Division of Eastern Railway has been actively conducting a series of cleanliness and awareness drives under the theme “Swachh Neer”. The campaign aims to promote cleanliness, hygiene, and sustainability across all railway premises.

Today on 11th October, 2025, the Environment & Housekeeping Management (EnHM) Department of Sealdah Division carried out a comprehensive cleanliness drive focusing on ensuring safe and hygienic drinking water facilities at various stations, offices, colonies, hospitals, and schools under its jurisdiction.
The major focus areas of the drive included intensive cleaning of drinking water tap areas at stations, inspection of filtration plants to ensure hygiene and operational efficiency, and quality checks of water at treatment and filtration plants covering both “pre and post” filtration stages. Awareness sessions were also organised for staff on maintaining hygiene while handling hydrant pipes at coach water filling points in stations and depots.
In addition, detailed inspections of water installations in Railway Colonies, Hospitals, Health Units, and Schools were conducted to ensure the availability of water testing kits and chemicals throughout the year, cleanliness and adequate capacity of water storage tanks, and proper maintenance and condition of water supply pipelines.
The drive covered multiple key locations including Sealdah, Sonarpur, Barasat, Barrackpore, Dum Dum Junction, Kolkata Terminal, Canning, Ballygunge, Naihati, Dakshineswar, B. R. Singh Hospital, Ranaghat, and Berhampore Court stations, among others.
Malda Division –
As part of the ongoing Swachhata Pakhwada (October 1–15, 2025) and Special Campaign 5.0, Malda Division organised intensive cleanliness and inspection drives under the theme “Swachh Neer” (Clean Water) on 11.10.2025 (Today).

The initiative focused on ensuring clean, safe and hygienic drinking water facilities at all passenger-centric and operational locations across the Division.
Under the guidance of Mr. Manish Kumar Gupta, Divisional Railway Manager, Malda and supervision of Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer (EnHM), Malda, teams conducted thorough inspections of water installations at various stations across the Division including Malda Town, Bhagalpur, Jamalpur, Sahebganj and other important locations.
Key activities included:
- Inspection and cleaning of Pump House and water tanks at Malda Town.
- Cleaning of water booths and taps at Malda Town, Sahebganj, Bhagalpur and Jamalpur stations and other locations across the Division.
- Testing of water quality at Bhagalpur, Jamalpur, Sahebganj and Malda Town stations, covering filter houses, water taps, water vending machines, and water booths.
- Verification of water testing kits and chemicals to ensure round-the-clock readiness for quality testing.
- Cleaning and upkeep of drinking water installations at Bhagalpur Depot offices.
- Stacking and maintenance of hydrant pipes at coach water filling points at Bhagalpur station.
- Inspection of Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) at Mechanized Laundry, Bhagalpur.
- Awareness among staff regarding proper maintenance of water installations and hygiene practices.
The drive aimed at guaranteeing the availability of potable water for passengers and maintaining cleanliness at all water supply points, including waiting rooms, retiring rooms, platforms, trains, and colonies.
