‘Rajmargyatra’ App Now Lets Users Gift FASTag Annual Passes for Seamless Travel

Oct 2025 : The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced a new feature in its ‘Rajmargyatra’ app, allowing users to gift a FASTag annual pass—a move the government described as a “perfect gift for travellers” this Diwali and festive season.

According to an official statement issued on Saturday, users can easily gift a pass through the app by selecting the “Add Pass” option, entering the vehicle number and contact details of the recipient, and completing a quick OTP verification. Once activated, the annual pass links to the recipient’s existing FASTag, enabling cashless and uninterrupted travel across India’s national highways without frequent recharges.

The FASTag annual pass, priced at ₹3,000, offers validity for one year or up to 200 toll plaza crossings, whichever comes first. It is applicable to all non-commercial vehicles equipped with a valid FASTag and can be used at around 1,150 toll plazas nationwide. Activation occurs within two hours after completing the one-time payment via the Rajmargyatra app.

Once the pass limit is reached, the FASTag automatically reverts to the standard pay-per-trip mode. For point-based toll plazas, each one-way crossing counts as a trip, while a return journey counts as two. In closed or ticketed systems, a complete entry-to-exit trip is considered a single journey.

The ministry clarified that FASTags registered only with a vehicle’s chassis number—common for new vehicles—are not eligible for annual pass activation. Such users must update their FASTag details with the complete vehicle registration number before proceeding.

Payments for the annual pass can be made via UPI, debit or credit cards, or net banking. However, the FASTag wallet balance cannot be used for this transaction.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways highlighted the growing popularity of the scheme, stating that the FASTag annual pass has already attracted over 25 lakh users and processed more than 5.67 crore transactions within the first two months of its launch.

With this new gifting option, NHAI aims to promote cashless tolling, reduce congestion at plazas, and make highway travel more efficient and convenient—while offering a thoughtful and practical gifting choice for frequent travellers during the festive season.
