Fortune Transformed Through MGNREGA: Sai Government’s Schemes Help Farmer Ramphal Become Self-Reliant
Livelihood Boost Through MGNREGA
Cattle Rearing Increases Income; Secure Cattle Shed Becomes the Foundation of a Stable Livelihood
Raipur, Oct 2025 :
The Sai government’s rural development-oriented policies are giving a new dimension to village life across Chhattisgarh. One such example is Ramphal, a cattle rearer from Charbhathakhurd Gram Panchayat, under Pandaria development block in Kawardha district, whose life has completely changed through these schemes.
Under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), the construction of a cattle shed has not only provided him with permanent employment but also ensured livestock safety and created a steady source of income.
Through effective implementation of schemes like MGNREGA, aimed at promoting rural livelihoods, many families in the state have become self-reliant. Among them is Ramphal, who once earned his living through daily wage labour but is now earning a respectable income as a cattle rearer.
With an approved amount of ₹68,500 under MGNREGA, the construction of the cattle shed began in October 2023 and was completed within a month. The project not only provided 48 man-days of employment to Ramphal but also created 12 man-days of work for other families in the village. A total of ₹7,500 in wages was paid to labourers, giving a boost to the rural economy.
After the construction of the pucca (permanent) and well-ventilated cattle shed, Ramphal gained complete assurance of livestock safety. His family now earns an additional monthly income of ₹3,000 to ₹4,000 from milk sales, apart from having enough milk for household consumption. With this extra income, he has also been able to increase productivity on his two-acre farm. This success, achieved through government schemes, has strengthened his family’s economic condition.
Ramphal says,
“The Sai government’s schemes have given villagers like us new confidence. Earlier, it was difficult to protect our cattle from rain and cold, but with a permanent shed, those problems are gone. Now, we are moving forward with safety and a stable income.”
Villagers also agree that the Sai government’s welfare-oriented policies have expanded employment opportunities, bringing new energy and growth to the rural economy.
