Alipore Regional Meteorological Centre issues advisory.

Sub: Deep depression over Southeast Bay of Bengal:

The deep depression over southeast Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards with a speed of 6 kmph during past 6 hours, and lay centered at 0830 hours IST of today, the 26th October 2025, over the same region, near latitude 11.2°N & longitude 87.1°E, about 620 km west of Port Blair (Andaman & Nicobar Islands), 780 km east-southeast of Chennai (Tamil Nadu), 830 km south-southeast of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 830 km southeast of Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh) and 930 km south-southeast of Gopalpur (Odisha).

It is likely to move nearly west-northwestwards, intensify further into a cyclonic storm over southwest & adjoining West Central Bay of Bengal during next 24 hours. Thereafter it is likely to move North Westwards, then North North-Westwards and intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by morning of 28th October. Continuing to move further north-northwestwards, it is very likely to cross Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam around Kakinada during evening/night of 28th October as a severe cyclonic storm with a maximum sustained wind speed of 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph.

26-10-2025: Light rain or thundershower likely to occur at one or two places over South 24 Parganas, East & West Midnapore, Kolkata, Howrah, Jhargram, Purulia and Bankura districts of South Bengal.

27.10.2025: Light rain or thundershower likely to occur at one or two places over South 24 Parganas, East & West Midnapore, Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly and Jhargram districts of South Bengal.

28-10-2025: Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at many places over North & South 24 Parganas, East & West Midnapore, Jhargram and Howrah districts and at one or two places over rest of the districts of South Bengal with Heavy rain (07-11 cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over South 24 Parganas and East Midnapore districts. Also, Thunderstorm with gusty wind (30-40 kmph) and lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over North & South 24 Parganas, East & West Midnapore, Howrah and Jhargram districts of South Bengal.

29-10-2025: Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at most places over all the districts of South Bengal with Midnapore, Jhargram and Howrah districts. Also, Thunderstorm with gusty wind (30-40 kmph) and lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over all the districts of South Bengal.

30-10-2025: Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at many places over all the districts of South Bengal with Heavy rain (07-11 cm) likely to occur at one or two places over Purulia, East & West Burdwan, Birbhum and Murshidabad districts. Also, Thunderstorm with gusty wind (30-40 kmph) and lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over all the districts of South Bengal.

31-10-2025: Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at many places over all the districts of South Bengal with Heavy rain (07-11 cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over Birbhum and Murshidabad districts. Also, Thunderstorm with gusty wind (30-40 kmph) and lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over East & West Burdwan, Nadia, Murshidabad, Birbhum, North & South 24 Parganas and East Midnapore districts of South Bengal.

01-11-2025: Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at a few places over all the districts of South Bengal.

Possible Impact for South Bengal:

  • Possibility of lightning strike especially in open field.
  • Water logging in low-lying areas, underpass roads and traffic Congestion.
  • Some damages to standing crops in the field.

Actions suggested for South Bengal:

  • Avoid taking shelter under tree/electric pole and avoid contact with water bodies.
  • Secure children remaining outside.
  • Take shelter in a safe place during intense spell of rain/thundershower.
  • Movement of traffic may be regulated judiciously.
  • Matured crops/vegetables may be harvested and kept in safe place.

26-10-2025: Light rain or thundershower likely to occur at one or two places over Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar districts of North Bengal.

27-10-2025: Mainly dry weather likely over the districts of North Bengal.

28-10-2025: Light rain or thundershower likely to occur at one or two places over Darjeeling, Kalimpong districts of North Bengal.

29-10-2025: Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at many places over Malda, North and South Dinajpur districts; likely to occur at a few places over the rest districts of North Bengal with Thunderstorm, gusty wind (30-40 kmph) and lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over Malda, North & South Dinajpur districts of North Bengal.

30-10-2025: Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at many places over all the districts of North Bengal with Heavy rain (07-11 cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over Malda, North & South Dinajpur and Jalpaiguri districts. Also, Thunderstorm with gusty wind (30-40 kmph) and lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over all the districts of North Bengal.

Wind warning for Sea area and Sea condition

Squally weather with wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph is prevailing over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of East Central Bay of Bengal. Winds will further increase, becoming Gale wind speed reaching 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph over southwest and adjoining areas of southeast & West central Bay of Bengal Bay of Bengal from 26th October evening. Thereafter winds would further increase becoming 80-90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph over West Central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal from 27th October evening and would further increase 90 to 100 kmph from 28th October morning.

Very rough sea condition is prevailing over southeast and adjoining areas of East Central Bay of Bengal and is likely to be high from 26th evening till 28th morning. Sea conditions is very likely to be very rough to high over southwest and adjoining areas of West central & southeast Bay of Bengal from 26th October evening.

Sea conditions is very likely to be high to very high over West Central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal from 27th October evening, becoming very high from 28th October morning till 29th early hours. Thereafter, it would start improving becoming high to very rough by noon of 29th and becoming very rough to rough during subsequent 12 hours.

Squally wind speed reaching 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph very likely to prevail along & off West Bengal coast from 28-10-2025 to 30-10-2025. Sea condition likely to be rough.

Fishermen Warning for West Bengal Coast: Fishermen are advised not to venture into sea along & off West Bengal coast from 28-10-2025 to 30-10-2025. Fishermen whoever in deep sea are advised to return to the coast by 27.10.2025.

Port Warning: Distant Cautionary Signal No. 1 hoisted at Kolkata & Haldia port with Sectional Signal No. 5 at Sagar Island port.
