Global-Level ‘Mumbai Climate Week’ to be Held in Mumbai: Announces Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis
Scheduled from February 17–19, 2026; Experts, Scholars, and Policymakers from Over 30 Countries to Participate
Mumbai, Oct 2025 : Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced that the global conference “Mumbai Climate Week” — a landmark initiative highlighting India’s leadership in the field of climate change and environmental sustainability — will be held in Mumbai in February 2026.
The ambitious initiative, conceptualized by Project Mumbai, will be organized in collaboration with the Maharashtra Government’s Department of Environment and Climate Change and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The announcement was made by Chief Minister Fadnavis during a meeting held at Mantralaya’s committee hall, in the presence of Environment and Climate Change Minister Pankaja Munde, BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, Department Secretary Jayshree Bhoj, and Project Mumbai Founder and CEO Shishir Joshi, among others.
Chief Minister Fadnavis said the initiative would play a crucial role in balancing development with environmental action, especially against the backdrop of climate challenges, food and energy crises faced by developing nations.
The main event of Mumbai Climate Week will take place from February 17 to 19, 2026, at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. Alongside the conference, a series of city-wide activities will be organized — including exhibitions, workshops, film screenings, art installations, sports, health, and spiritual events, and a Climate Food Festival to encourage public participation.
Over 30 countries from the Global South will take part in the conference, where a practical and collaborative action plan on climate change will be developed. The event will bring together chief ministers of states, city representatives, industries, social organizations, students, and youth, Fadnavis said. The Chief Minister also unveiled the Mumbai Climate Week logo and a short film introducing the initiative.
Chief Minister Fadnavis stated that “Mumbai Climate Week reflects India’s strong commitment to lead with action on climate change. Inspired by the vision of the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Mumbai and Maharashtra are ready to help shape a fair, innovative, and well-funded climate future for the Global South.”
He further emphasized that Mumbai Climate Week would serve as a major global platform showcasing India’s leadership in climate action and cooperation across the Global South.
“For the first time, Mumbai will host such a comprehensive ‘Mumbai Climate Week’,” Fadnavis said. “Now is the time to act. Every individual, every business, and every layer of society must join this mission against the effects of climate change. We must demonstrate through our actions how to reduce its impact.”
The Chief Minister added that after organizing this event, Maharashtra and Mumbai must set benchmarks and define measurable goals for climate action, beginning implementation immediately.
During the conference, academics, environmental experts, and policymakers from over 30 countries will come together to develop inclusive and sustainable solutions to combat climate change. The initiative aims to amplify the collective voice of India and other developing nations on the global stage.
Mumbai Climate Week will focus on three key themes — Food Systems, Energy Transition, and Urban Resilience — explored through the lenses of justice, innovation, and finance.
Project Mumbai Founder and CEO Shishir Joshi said, “Mumbai Climate Week will mark a historic milestone for Maharashtra and India. It will generate people-driven, sustainable, and inclusive solutions to tackle climate change.”
The knowledge partner for the event will be Monitor Deloitte, with participation from organizations such as The Climate Group, India Climate Collaborative, World Resources Institute (India), Eversource, HT Parekh Foundation, UNICEF, Shakti Foundation, Rainmatter Foundation, National Gallery of Modern Art, and the National Service Scheme (NSS).
Also present at the event were Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Ashwini Bhide, Secretary Dr. Shrikar Pardeshi, Chief Economic Advisor to the Chief Minister Kaustubh Dhavse, and Project Mumbai Advisory Board members Ridhim Desai and Jalaj Dani.
