Cow Holds Revered Place in Sanatan Culture: Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma Performs Gau Poojan on Gopashtami

Jaipur, Oct 2025 : Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma said that the cow holds a sacred and revered place in India’s Sanatan (eternal) culture. The festival of Gopashtami, he said, offers an opportunity to serve and honor Gau Mata (the holy cow), who is a symbol of pride and sustenance in our lives. The Chief Minister urged everyone to work with dedication towards Gau Seva (cow service) and contribute actively to the cause of cow protection by associating with gaushalas (cow shelters).

Sharma was addressing the Gopashtami Mahotsav held at Sadguru Teunram Gaushala in Mangiyawas and Jotda Gaushala in Renwal on Thursday. He said that Gau Mata is the foundation of India’s rural economy. Cow-based products are highly nutritious, and Panchgavya—a combination of five cow products—has well-known medicinal properties. He emphasized that Gau Poojan (worship of the cow) is not merely a religious ritual but also an expression of gratitude towards nature and life.

The Chief Minister stated that the state government is fully committed to the promotion and protection of cows. Every registered gaushala in Rajasthan receives financial assistance of ₹50 per cow per day and ₹25 per calf per day. Additionally, farmers who cultivate their fields using bullocks are being provided an annual subsidy of ₹30,000 to encourage traditional, sustainable farming practices.

Saints’ Contribution to Cow Protection
Highlighting the spiritual community’s efforts, Sharma said that saints, sages, and religious leaders have played a vital role in the preservation and care of Gau Mata, giving top priority to her protection and service. He appealed to the public to make Gau Seva an integral part of their lives and to work collectively with the government for the cause of cow welfare.

On the occasion of Gopashtami, Chief Minister Sharma first visited Sadguru Teunram Gaushala, where he and his wife performed Gau Poojan, applied tilak to the cows, and offered them gur (jaggery). He also extended greetings to Swami Bhagatprakash Ji. Later, he visited Jotda Gaushala, where he paid floral respects to Shri Ramkaran Das Maharaj, performed Gau Poojan with his wife, and fed fodder to the cows.

The Chief Minister was warmly welcomed by Gau Sevaks (cow caretakers) and local residents at both venues. He also participated in devotional bhajan-kirtan held at the Shiva temple within the premises.

A large number of Gau Sevaks and citizens were present on the occasion.
