Fake Wedding Invite APK Scam: Rajasthan Police Warns of Rising Cyber Threat

Jaipur, Nov 2025 . Following the directions of Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar Sharma, the Cyber Crime Branch of Rajasthan Police has issued a serious warning to the public regarding a new cyber threat. With the wedding season underway, cyber criminals are circulating fake e-invitation and gift links through social media, WhatsApp, and email, setting a dangerous trap to steal private data. The objective of this alert is to curb rising cyber fraud incidents.

Deputy Inspector General of Police, Cyber Crime, Vikas Sharma, said that criminals are sharing a fake APK file, commonly named “Aamantran.apk” (Invitation.apk). As soon as a user clicks on it—mistaking it for a wedding invitation or location link—the application installs itself on the phone. This is not an ordinary app but a backdoor malware that hacks the device.

Once installed, the malware secretly gains access to sensitive permissions such as SMS, contact list, camera, and files. After this, it silently begins collecting personal information, banking details, OTPs, and passwords. Cybercriminals use the stolen data to execute large-scale frauds, putting people’s hard-earned money at serious risk.

● Verify the identity of the sender before clicking on any e-invitation or gift link.

◆ Always download applications only from official app stores like Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
◆ Use a trusted antivirus or mobile security application on your device.
