Tej Pratap Yadav Alleges Threat to Life, Seeks Enhanced Security Amid Rising Election-Related Violence
Vaishali, Nov 2025 : Jan Shakti Janata Dal (JJD) chief Tej Pratap Yadav has voiced deep concern over the rising incidents of violence and political attacks during the ongoing Bihar Assembly elections. Speaking in Vaishali, Tej Pratap said the atmosphere in the state has become increasingly tense, and he fears he could also become a target of politically motivated attacks. He urged both the central and state governments to immediately increase his security, stating that the threat to his life is real and growing.
His concerns intensified after the killing of Dular Chand, the uncle of Piyush Priyadarshi, the Jan Suraj Party candidate from the Mokama constituency. The murder, which occurred two days ago, has amplified fears about the safety of political leaders and workers involved in the high-stakes election. Tej Pratap said such incidents reflect a dangerous pattern of escalating violence. “Attacks on political leaders are rising. Anyone could be targeted, including me,” he warned.
Amid these developments, Tej Pratap has also filed a complaint with the Election Commission against one of his own party’s candidates contesting from the Supaul assembly seat. According to him, the candidate sought support from the Mahagathbandhan nominee, which he said was in direct violation of JJD’s policies. He has demanded a thorough investigation and strict action, saying that such behaviour damages the integrity of his party’s campaign.
Tej Pratap, the elder son of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, was expelled from the Rashtriya Janata Dal for six years on May 25. The party claimed the action was taken because his conduct had gone against its ideological and moral principles. Following his expulsion, Tej Pratap launched his own political outfit, the Jan Shakti Janata Dal, choosing the blackboard as the party’s election symbol. He has fielded candidates across several constituencies in the state and is himself contesting from the Mahua seat in Vaishali district.
Addressing reporters on Sunday, Tej Pratap also reacted to the arrest of JDU’s Mokama candidate, Anant Singh, in connection with Dular Chand’s murder. He said the arrest was “inevitable,” asserting that anyone with registered criminal cases would naturally face legal consequences. “A person against whom criminal cases are registered will certainly be arrested,” he said.
Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikeya Sharma confirmed the arrest, stating that Anant Singh was taken into custody early Sunday morning along with two associates, Manikant Thakur and Ranjit Ram. All three will be produced before a magistrate. According to police reports, the incident occurred on October 30 during a clash between two rival groups amid election campaigning in Mokama. The confrontation escalated into stone-pelting and gunfire, leaving several people injured. Dular Chand Yadav, aged 75, was later found dead in the same village where the violence broke out.
The SSP said the investigation, based on eyewitness statements, evidence gathered from the scene, and the post-mortem report, suggested a serious violation of the Model Code of Conduct. He added that the violence occurred in the presence of Anant Singh, who police say is the main accused. Authorities have assured a full, impartial investigation into the matter.
As Bihar moves closer to polling day, the rise in violent incidents and political tension has intensified scrutiny on the election process, with leaders like Tej Pratap calling for stronger security measures and fair enforcement of the law.
