Amarkantak Thermal Power Station’s Unit No. 5 Sets Record
The 210 MW Unit No. 5 of Amarkantak Thermal Power Station (ATPS), Chachai, operated by Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company Limited (MPPGCL), has set a record as the first power generation unit in the state’s history to run continuously for 400 days. The unit has been producing electricity without interruption since October 1, 2024. Last month, on October 4, the unit achieved the milestone of 365 days (one year) of nonstop electricity generation. The uninterrupted operation of Unit 5 has provided stability to the state’s electricity grid, ensuring a reliable power supply for both domestic and industrial consumers. This achievement has not only enhanced the reputation of Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company but also set an inspiring example for other thermal power units in the state.
Energy Minister Congratulates Team on Historic Success
Energy Minister Pradyumna Singh Tomar, Additional Chief Secretary for Energy Shri Neeraj Mandloi and Managing Director Manjeet Singh expressed their delight and congratulated the team on the success of Unit No. 5 at ATPS, Chachai. They stated that this accomplishment is a testament to the dedication, hard work, and commitment of the operations and maintenance engineers and staff at Amarkantak Thermal Power Station.
Impressive Performance Indicators: 98.26% PAF
While setting the record for 400 days of continuous power generation, the 210 MW unit recorded an outstanding Plant Availability Factor (PAF) of 98.26% and an excellent Plant Load Factor (PLF) of 94.58%. These figures reflect the unit’s technical proficiency and operational excellence.

A Challenging Achievement
Operating a thermal power unit continuously for an entire year without interruption is an exceptionally challenging achievement, requiring meticulous maintenance of the boiler, turbine, generator & auxiliary systems, along with constant monitoring and prompt resolution of technical issues.
