Victory of the World Champion Women’s Cricket Team Will Inspire Girls Across the Country – Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis

Mumbai, Nov 2025 : The victory of the women’s cricket team, which secured the World Cup for India, will prove inspirational for many young girls entering the field of sports, said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis while expressing his appreciation.

Chief Minister Fadnavis felicitated the players by presenting ₹2 crore 25 lakh each to vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Radha Yadav; ₹22 lakh 50 thousand to head coach Amol Muzumdar; and ₹11 lakh each along with a memento to all support staff.

For the first time, the Indian women’s cricket team won the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, and Chief Minister Fadnavis felicitated all players, coaches, and staff at his official residence, Varsha. Bowling coach Avishkar Salvi, Padma Shri Diana Edulji, analyst Aniruddha Deshpande, logistics support Aparna Gambhirrao, operations manager Maruf Fazandar, Mihir Upadhyay, Purva Kate, and Mamta Shirsulla were also honored.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Adv. Manikrao Kokate, Cultural Affairs Minister Adv. Ashish Shelar, Principal Secretary Sanjay Khandare, Commissioner Sheetal Teli, and Deputy Secretary Sunil Pandhare were present on the occasion.

“Historic achievement that has made every Indian proud” – CM Fadnavis

During the felicitation, Chief Minister Fadnavis said that by winning the World Cup for the first time, the Indian women’s team has created history. Every Indian feels proud of this achievement, which has brought great honor to the nation.

He praised the team’s remarkable comeback after early defeats, saying that each player played a decisive role in at least one match. He congratulated the coach and the entire team for their extraordinary performance, highlighting the unity and strong team spirit that led to this victory.

Speaking about individual players, he said:

  • Smriti Mandhana is counted among India’s iconic athletes; her journey from the beginning to now is extraordinary, and she will soon reach the 10,000-run milestone.
  • Jemimah Rodrigues played a brilliant knock in the semifinals.
  • Radha Yadav, with her determined and challenging journey, has created her own identity.

Expressing hope, he added that the Indian women’s team would also win at the Olympics.

He further said that coach Amol Muzumdar’s dedication and contribution to cricket has been inspiring. Acknowledging BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, Fadnavis said that Shah has given women’s cricket its own identity and stature.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said that this is a historic moment for women’s cricket. The sapling planted by Padma Shri Diana Edulji has now grown into a strong tree. The players have proven that if girls from rural areas are given opportunities, they can achieve success on the global stage.

He added that this victory has raised expectations among sports lovers, and expressed confidence that the team would continue to deliver such success in the future.

Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, Radha Yadav, and coach Amol Muzumdar expressed their gratitude, thanking all teammates and cricket fans. They said that the constant support of the BCCI and the facilities provided for the sport made this victory possible.
