Uddhav Thackeray Labels Fadnavis an “Accidental CM,” Slams BJP and Ajit Pawar Over Land Deals and Farmer Distress
Nov 8: Shiv Sena-UBT chief Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday ignited a fresh political storm in Maharashtra, calling former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis an “accidental Chief Minister” while launching a fierce attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Thackeray, who wrapped up his four-day visit to the rain and flood-affected regions of Marathwada, accused the ruling MahaYuti government of corruption, insensitivity towards farmers, and misuse of power.

Speaking to reporters after interacting with distressed farmers, Thackeray said the BJP had turned into a “Corrupt Janata Party.” He criticised the party for organising a grand event to mark the 150th anniversary of “Vande Mataram,” alleging that a party “looting Mother India” had no moral right to chant the slogan.
Thackeray also targeted Deputy Chief Minister and NCP chief Ajit Pawar, mocking his recent remark that farmers should cultivate the habit of regularly repaying loans instead of seeking waivers. “Except his son, Ajit Pawar doesn’t want anyone to get anything for free,” Thackeray said, referring to the controversy surrounding a Pune land deal linked to Pawar’s son, Parth Pawar.
He accused the MahaYuti government of coming to power through “theft”—first of political parties, then of votes, and now of land. “We get food on our plates only because farmers work day and night, even in crisis. After stealing Shiv Sena and NCP, this government stole votes. Now they are stealing land too,” he claimed.
Thackeray also hit out at the state leadership over a series of controversial land transactions involving senior MahaYuti leaders. Referring to the cancellation of the Mundhwa–Koregaon land deal involving Parth Pawar, he said the government was merely reacting to public outrage rather than ensuring accountability. “The Chief Minister gives a clean chit to everyone. He has become a clean cheater,” Thackeray remarked. He cited the earlier Pune land transaction involving Union Minister Muralidhar Mohol and the recent allegations surrounding Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik as evidence that “all criminals are in the BJP.”
Urging farmers to unite and raise their voice, Thackeray said the state government was showing “apathy and negligence” while people were struggling with losses from torrential rain and floods. “If the spark in your heart is still alive, show it to this government. When the spark of the farmer dies, the government will burn down,” he warned.
Reiterating his demand for an immediate and complete farm loan waiver, Thackeray said the state’s relief package of ₹31,628 crore was “inadequate and unacceptable.” He suggested that villages should put up boards declaring they would not vote until a loan waiver was implemented.
Thackeray further contradicted the state government’s claim that financial assistance had been deposited into farmers’ bank accounts, demanding transparency and immediate support for those hit hardest by the natural disaster.
