Late Writer Shri Shailesh Matiyani Conferred “Uttarakhand Gaurav Samman 2025”
Late writer Shri Shailesh Matiyani has been conferred the “Uttarakhand Gaurav Samman 2025.” The Chief Minister presented the honour to his son, Shri Rakesh Matiyani.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, in a simple and dignified ceremony held today at the Chief Minister’s Residence, presented the “Uttarakhand Gaurav Samman Award 2025” — conferred upon renowned Hindi litterateur the late Shri Shailesh Matiyani — to his son, Shri Rakesh Matiyani. This honour has been awarded in recognition of Shri Matiyani’s literary accomplishments, his invaluable contribution to Hindi short stories, and his role in giving a strong identity to Uttarakhand’s cultural heritage.
On this occasion, Chief Minister Dhami said that Shri Shailesh Matiyani was not just a writer, but a master craftsman of human sensitivities. His contribution to the modern Hindi short story movement is unforgettable. The way he powerfully portrayed the pain, struggles, and realities of everyday life places him among the finest creators of Indian literature.
The Chief Minister added that the Uttarakhand government always honours those great talents of the state who, through their writing, deeds, and creativity, have inspired generations. Many of Shri Matiyani’s works—including Borivli se Bori Bandar, Muthbhed, Adhagini, Cheel, and others—remain highly relevant even today and hold an important place in Hindi literature. He said that presenting this posthumous award to the family of the late Shri Matiyani is a matter of pride for the state government.
Honouring his son, the Chief Minister said that recognising writers enriches both society and the state. Accepting the honour, the son of the late Shri Shailesh Matiyani expressed gratitude to the Uttarakhand government and Chief Minister Dhami, saying that this award is a moment of pride for all literature lovers of the state and admirers of Shri Matiyani.
The programme was attended by senior officials, writers, family members, and Secretary Shri Vinod Kumar Suman.
