CM Dhami Urges Social Media Creators to Strengthen ‘Brand Uttarakhand’
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami addressed the Social Media Manthan (Brainstorming) program, urging social media content creators and influencers to prominently highlight Uttarakhand’s tourist destinations, local products, cultural heritage, and social achievements in their content. He said that content creators also play a crucial role in countering fake news and negative narratives.
Speaking at the program held at Mukhya Sevak Sadan on Wednesday, the Chief Minister said that social media has today become the fastest and most effective medium of communication and information exchange. Anyone, anywhere in the world, can share their thoughts and perspectives globally within seconds. Social media has provided a platform for the voice of every citizen, making even the smallest village-level issue reach millions instantly.
The Chief Minister said that since taking office in 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made social media and digital platforms an integral part of governance. He transformed these platforms into tools of communication, transparency, and citizen participation, making governance more people-centric and directly connecting every citizen to policy-making. Through platforms like X (Twitter), Facebook, Mann Ki Baat, MyGov, and the PMO’s digital ecosystem, the Prime Minister established a new model of digital governance. He is also among the world’s most-followed leaders.
CM Dhami said the state government is working with full commitment toward building a Digital Uttarakhand. Today, every department, including the Chief Minister’s Office, interacts directly with the public through social media. Earlier, citizens had to visit offices to file complaints; now, a single tweet or Facebook message can lead to an immediate solution. He said he personally monitors suggestions, complaints, and public issues appearing on the state’s various social media platforms every day.
He shared that many times, a single post or live video has resulted in a child’s treatment being arranged, a senior citizen’s pension being restored, road repairs being initiated, or rescue of people trapped in disaster situations. At the same time, he cautioned that the misuse of social media has been growing rapidly—fake news, rumors, and negative narratives have become a major challenge. Some people try to create ideological divides, disturb social harmony, and spread misconceptions about public welfare schemes.
The Chief Minister said that recently, individuals with anti-religious and anti-national agendas have been trying to tarnish India’s faith and cultural heritage through misleading narratives and fake propaganda. Fact-checking and spreading accurate information quickly is essential in such situations. He emphasized that some negative content creators distort news related to government, society, religion, and the pride of Uttarakhand for views and likes, but everyone must understand that popularity should not come at the cost of ethical and social responsibility.
He added that ever since the state government has taken strict legal measures to protect the cultural identity of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand, some anti-national groups and “urban Naxal” elements have been creating fake accounts to spread fabricated narratives on social media.
Concluding his address, CM Dhami appealed to all content creators and influencers to highlight Uttarakhand’s tourism, local products, cultural heritage, and social progress in their content to further strengthen the identity of “Brand Uttarakhand.”
Director General of Information Banshidhar Tiwari and other officials were present at the event.
