Revanth Reddy Launches Distribution of One Crore Indiramma Sarees Across Telangana
Hyderabad, Nov 2025 : Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday launched the ambitious Indiramma Saree Distribution Programme, which aims to provide one crore sarees to one crore women across the state. The launch coincided with the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, with the Chief Minister describing the initiative as a significant step toward strengthening women’s empowerment in Telangana.
Revanth Reddy said the programme reflects the vision of a “people’s government” committed to supporting and uplifting women. The massive distribution drive will take place in two phases to ensure that all eligible women receive the benefit.
In the first phase, all women residing in rural areas will receive sarees, and this phase is expected to be completed by December 9. The second phase, scheduled from March 1 to March 8, will cover women in urban areas and culminate on International Women’s Day. A total of 65 lakh sarees will be distributed during this phase.
The Chief Minister urged women Ministers and MLAs in the state to wear Indiramma sarees themselves and serve as brand ambassadors for the programme. He emphasized that every woman legislator should proudly showcase these sarees as a symbol of dignity, identity and community pride.
Revanth Reddy highlighted that the inspiration behind many of the government’s women-centric initiatives comes from the legacy of Indira Gandhi. Under these efforts, women’s groups have been encouraged to expand their economic activities, including operating petrol pump outlets. In a notable achievement, women’s self-help groups have leased around 1,000 buses to the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC), strengthening both livelihood opportunities and public transport.
The Chief Minister added that a large number of Indiramma houses have also been allotted in the names of women, reflecting the government’s commitment to ensuring women’s ownership and economic security. He reiterated that the government’s long-term goal is to empower one crore women to become millionaires through sustained support, skill development and financial inclusion.
Paying tribute to Indira Gandhi, Revanth Reddy recalled her “yeoman services” to the nation. He said she filled a crucial leadership vacuum during turbulent times and played a transformative role in national policies—ranging from the nationalisation of banks and the introduction of the Agricultural Land Ceiling Act to land distribution for the poor and the expansion of housing initiatives.
With the launch of the Indiramma saree programme, the Telangana government aims to blend social welfare with empowerment, celebrating both cultural identity and women’s leadership.
