Jagan Mohan Reddy Appears Before CBI Court in Hyderabad After Nearly Six Years

Hyderabad, Nov 2025 : Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday appeared before the Special CBI Court in Hyderabad in connection with the long-pending disproportionate assets case.

Under tight security arrangements, Jagan reached the Nampally Criminal Court complex, where a large gathering of YSRCP supporters had assembled to express solidarity with their leader. Holding placards and chanting slogans, they lined the streets leading to the court, creating a charged atmosphere.

The court formally recorded Jagan Mohan Reddy’s attendance and closed the hearing on his petition. After spending only a few minutes inside the premises, he exited the courtroom and left for his residence at Lotus Pond. Outside the complex, he acknowledged his supporters with folded hands before departing in his convoy.

Earlier in the day, the former Chief Minister arrived at Begumpet Airport on a special aircraft from Gannavaram Airport in Vijayawada. Hundreds of party members greeted him at the airport, raising slogans and showering him with a warm reception. From the airport, he travelled to his Lotus Pond residence and later proceeded to the court.

Police had imposed strict traffic restrictions around the Nampally court complex, given the crowd buildup and the high-profile nature of the case.

Thursday’s appearance marks Jagan Mohan Reddy’s first physical presence in court in nearly six years. His last appearance was on January 10, 2020, during his tenure as Chief Minister. Over the years, he had sought repeated exemptions from personal appearance, citing the demands of his office. Even after the YSRCP lost power, he continued requesting exemptions.

Last month, while granting him permission to travel to Europe, the court directed him to appear in person upon his return. He was instructed to present himself by November 14 to provide details of his foreign travel and demonstrate adherence to bail conditions. When he filed a fresh petition seeking exemption, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) objected, urging the court to enforce his personal appearance. The court subsequently ordered him to appear on or before November 21. He complied a day ahead of the deadline.

Jagan Mohan Reddy has been on bail since September 2013 in the disproportionate assets case, which dates back to the period when his late father, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, served as the Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh from 2004 to 2009.

According to the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Jagan allegedly benefited from a large-scale quid-pro-quo network. Investigators claim that several companies and individuals invested heavily in Jagan’s business ventures—such as Jagathi Publications and Bharathi Cements—often at inflated premiums. In return, they allegedly received undue benefits from the state government, including preferential land allotments, mining leases, and industrial clearances.

The CBI has filed 11 charge sheets in the case so far, naming Jagan Mohan Reddy as Accused No. 1. The case continues to be one of the most high-profile political and legal battles in the Telugu states, drawing widespread public attention each time the YSRCP chief makes a court appearance.
