MahaMetro to Begin Service for Mira-Bhayandar Residents by December – Transport Minister Pratap Sarnayak

Mumbai, Nov 2025 : Metro services from Dahisar to Kashimira are planned to begin by the end of this December, marking a moment of great joy for residents of Mira-Bhayandar. After a continuous follow-up lasting 14 years, the long-awaited dream of the people of Mira-Bhayandar is finally becoming a reality, informed Transport Minister Pratap Sarnayak.

He was speaking during an inspection visit of the Dahisar–Kashimira Metro route. Senior officials, including the Superintendent Engineer of MahaMetro and their team of technical consultants and contractors, were present.

Minister Sarnayak said that when he was first elected as the local representative in 2009, he had assured the citizens that they would get a metro service. After persistent efforts over the last 14 years, the project is finally nearing completion. In 2014, with the support of the then Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the then Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde, the Dahisar–Kashimira Metro project gained momentum. Once the route becomes operational, Mira-Bhayandar residents will be able to travel by metro up to Andheri. They will also be able to reach Colaba directly by taking Metro 3 from Airport Terminal 1.

Additionally, in the new year, residents of Mira-Bhayandar will also be able to travel directly to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Railway Station, Mantralaya, and Vidhan Bhavan through the extended metro network.

Metro to Reach Subhash Chandra Bose Ground by December 2026
The Dahisar–Kashimira Metro line will be extended up to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Ground by December 2026. Work on the Vasai–Virar Metro line will also commence soon. This will eventually allow metro connectivity from Vasai–Virar to Andheri, and from there to the Airport Station interchange, enabling direct travel to Colaba within the next few years, the minister added.

CMRS Approval Required Before Launch
The new Dahisar–Kashimira Metro route requires certification from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS). Once the approval is received, plans are in place to inaugurate the new metro line by the end of December in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Minister Sarnayak said.
