Chhattisgarh State Wetland Authority Initiative: ‘Wetland Mitra’ Campaign

Raipur, Nov 2025 : Under the direction of Forest Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap, the Chhattisgarh State Wetland Authority has launched the “Wetland Mitra” (Wetland Friend) campaign to promote wetland conservation across the state. The Wetland Mitras will play a crucial role in ensuring active community participation in the protection and management of local wetlands.

Registered Wetland Mitras to Receive Training in Wetland Conservation

To become a Wetland Mitra, interested individuals can scan the QR code and fill in the required information in the designated form to connect with the nearest wetland area. Registered Wetland Mitras will receive information and training related to wetland conservation and will get opportunities to participate in awareness programs.
They will also help identify changes in wetland areas, report illegal activities, and communicate important information to local communities.

More Than 500 Wetland Mitras Registered

The biggest achievement of this campaign so far is that over 500 Wetland Mitras have already been registered across the state. This number not only reflects the growing level of public awareness but also highlights the increasing sense of responsibility among citizens toward wetland conservation.
Wetland Mitras are making valuable contributions at the local level by monitoring the health of wetlands, participating in conservation activities, and spreading scientific information. In Korba district alone, nearly 200 Wetland Mitras are actively supporting conservation efforts in their respective areas.

Wetland Mitras Serve as an Effective Bridge Between Citizens and the Department

A strong network of dedicated and knowledgeable Wetland Mitras is being developed across the state, serving as an effective bridge between the department and the general public. With their support, information about the biodiversity value, ecological significance, and sustainable use of wetlands is being widely disseminated.

Protecting Chhattisgarh’s Natural Wealth

By encouraging community participation, the Wetland Mitra campaign has provided a strong foundation for the state’s long-term conservation plans. This initiative is not only helping protect Chhattisgarh’s natural heritage but also playing a significant role in connecting the public and administration with wetland conservation.
