Samrat Choudhary Becomes Bihar’s New Home Minister as NDA Finalises Cabinet Portfolios

Patna, Nov 21: BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has been appointed Bihar’s new Home Minister after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar finalised the portfolio distribution for all 26 ministers in the newly formed NDA government. The complete list of allocations has been forwarded to Governor Arif Mohammad Khan for approval.

Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha has been entrusted with the Mines and Geology Ministry, a department crucial for mineral regulation and revenue generation. Senior BJP leader Ramkripal Yadav has been appointed the new Agriculture Minister, placing him in charge of a sector that remains central to Bihar’s economy.

With the BJP emerging as the dominant partner in the coalition, the party has secured several high-profile ministries, including Home, Health, Road Construction and Agriculture. The distribution reflects the power balance following Nitish Kumar’s historic swearing-in for a record tenth term as Chief Minister on Thursday.

In the newly constituted council of ministers, the BJP holds 14 berths, JD(U) has 9, LJP (Ram Vilas) has 2, while HAM(S) and the Rashtriya Lok Morcha have one minister each. The allocation ensures representation for all NDA constituents while giving the BJP commanding influence over key administrative sectors.

NDA Sweeps Bihar Assembly Elections

The National Democratic Alliance achieved a decisive victory in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, winning 202 out of 243 seats. The BJP emerged as the single-largest party with 89 seats, followed closely by JD(U) with 85. LJP(RV) secured 19 seats, HAM(S) won 5, and the Rashtriya Lok Morcha clinched 4.

The strong mandate reaffirmed the NDA’s popularity and cleared the path for Nitish Kumar to continue leading the state, backed by an emboldened BJP and a stable coalition structure.
