PM Modi Receives Warm Welcome from Indian Community Ahead of G20 Summit in Johannesburg

Johannesburg, Nov 2025 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived in South Africa on Friday to participate in the G20 Leaders’ Summit, expressed deep appreciation for the heartfelt welcome extended by the Indian community. He said the warmth and vibrant display of India’s cultural diversity in Johannesburg reflected the strong bonds between the two nations.

Members of the Indian diaspora organised a short cultural program titled “Rhythms of a United India,” featuring folk performances from 11 Indian states. The energetic dances and traditional music added colour to the welcome ceremony, showcasing the cultural richness that Indians continue to preserve abroad.

PM Modi praised the community for staying rooted in Indian traditions despite living far from home. In a post on X, he wrote, “The cultural connection between India and South Africa is truly heartwarming and everlasting. In Johannesburg, my young friends sang the Ganpati prayer, the Shanti Mantra, and other prayers with great devotion. Such moments further strengthen the everlasting bonds between our peoples.”

The Prime Minister said he was “deeply delighted” by the affection shown by the diaspora, adding that this love symbolized the historic and enduring relationship between India and South Africa. He highlighted that the shared legacy of values, friendships, and cultural exchanges continues to push the partnership forward.

Before reaching Johannesburg, PM Modi landed in Pretoria for the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit, where he was accorded a warm reception at the airport. The Summit, scheduled for November 22–23, is expected to focus on global cooperation, development priorities, and strengthening multilateral efforts.

PM Modi is also slated to hold several bilateral meetings with world leaders attending the Summit. After arriving, he posted, “Arrived in Johannesburg for G20 Summit-related engagements. Looking forward to good discussions with world leaders on key global issues. Our focus will be on strengthening cooperation, advancing development priorities, and ensuring a better future for all.”

His visit is expected to reinforce India’s commitment to global partnership and deepen ties with South Africa.
