Bihar Home Minister Samrat Choudhary Warns Criminals, Vows Strict Enforcement of Law and Order
Patna, Nov 2025: Bihar’s newly appointed Home Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has signalled a strong and uncompromising approach to law and order in the state. Soon after taking charge on Saturday, he issued a direct warning to criminals, declaring that no offender would be spared and emphasizing that the police now have complete freedom to act without hesitation.
Choudhary said the Home Department will function under the guidance of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and that the era of good governance established earlier will not only continue but become even stronger. He asserted that Bihar would not allow the return of “jungle raj,” stressing that strict policing and decisive action would define the administration’s approach.
Addressing reporters, the Deputy CM said that law enforcement agencies were no longer constrained and could take “open and direct action” against criminals. When questioned about his earlier controversial remark suggesting that criminals in Bihar would be “cremated in Gaya,” he responded that the police were doing their duty and that his focus remained on ensuring public safety.
This is the first time since 2005 that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has handed over the crucial Home Department to the BJP, marking a significant shift in the administrative setup. In the newly expanded Cabinet, 26 ministers took oath alongside the Chief Minister.
Samrat Choudhary has taken charge as both Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister, while Vijay Kumar Sinha has been appointed as the other Deputy Chief Minister. Sinha will oversee the Departments of Revenue, Land Reforms, and Mining in the Nitish Kumar-led government.
The new Cabinet reflects representation from all National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partners. The BJP has secured the highest number of berths with 14 ministers, followed by JD-U with eight. Two ministers represent the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), while one each has been inducted from the Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) and the Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM).
Despite having two Deputy Chief Ministers and a significant presence in the Cabinet, the BJP controls a smaller share of the departmental budget compared to JD-U. The BJP holds approximately 29.22 per cent of the total budget, while LJP-RV holds 0.91 per cent, HAM 0.58 per cent, and RLM 3.56 per cent. The JD-U retains control over the largest share—around 65 per cent—of the total departmental budget.
With Samrat Choudhary’s assertive entry into the Home Ministry, the government has sent a clear message that maintaining strong law and order will be a top priority in the new administrative term.
